The role requires Virginia licensure and NBRC credentials with acute care experience.

Responsibilities include equipment maintenance, patient monitoring, and ensuring safety through protocol adherence, with a focus on critical care across floor and ICU

Qualifications

• Required: Vocational School Graduate (Respiratory Therapy).
• Preferred: Associates Degree.
• License: Virginia Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner or state RN equivalent.
• Maintain NBRC credentials for Certified or Registered Respiratory Therapist.
• Required: American Heart Association BLS Health Care Provider.

Responsibilities

• Administers all therapy modalities to patients per physician orders.
• Maintains and processes equipment and performs arterial puncture and blood gas analysis.
• Initiates, operates and monitors adult mechanical ventilators and NIV/CPAP therapy.
• Performs SpO2 monitoring, metabolic testing, and bedside spirometry.
• Performs basic operations on the Meditech system and participates in code blue responses.
• Precepts new staff and ensures ongoing education and compliance with protocols.

Job Summary And Qualifications

ADMINISTERS floor and critical care therapy modalities. Performs arterial puncture and blood gas analysis and instrument QC. Responds to cardiopulmonary arrests. Maintains and processes equipment. Provides specialized service to the department.

Specific Elements And Essential Functions

• Maintains CPR certificate.
• Maintains license requirements.
• Maintains NBRC credentials for Certified or Registered Respiratory Therapist
• Fulfills staff meeting, in-service, competency and on-going education requirements.
• Ensures safe and appropriate oxygen administrations through the Oxygen Therapist Driven Protocol.
• Performs non-invasive SpO2 monitoring through pulse oximetry via overnight studies, exercise, continuous and spot checks.
• Administers all therapy modalities to patients per physician orders.
• Performs VEST therapy.
• Performs basic operations on the Meditech system.
• Performs regular equipment rounds.
• Performs equipment cleaning and set up.
• Sets up and operates CPAP/Bi-Level therapy.
• Performs arterial puncture and blood gas analysis.
• Adheres to established blood gas quality control protocol.
• Performs trouble-shooting and maintenance of Blood Gas Machine as a Super User.
• Responds and participates in all code blue situations.
• Sets up and monitors NIPPV (non-invasive positive pressure ventilation) through both Bi-Level and Volume ventilation.
• Initiates, operates and monitors Adult mechanical ventilators.
• Assists in bedside therapeutic bronchoscopies.
• Initiates, operates and monitors Nitric Oxide therapy.
• Initiates, operates and monitors Heliox therapy.
• Precepts new employees or staff members entering into a new area of training.
• Performs bedside spirometry.
• Performs Metabolic testing for spontaneously breathing and artificially ventilated patients.

What qualifications you will need:

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Required: Vocational School Graduate (Respiratory Therapy)

Preferred: Associates Degree

EXPERIENCE:

Required: One year critical care experience.

Preferred: One year NICU/PICU experience. Knowledge and experience in basic floor care and mechanical ventilation, blood gas analysis, pulmonary function testing, bronchoscopy, capnography and oximetry equipment.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

Required: Respiratory Therapist I: Virginia Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (Licensed Respiratory Therapist – Code CardioPL07 in Lawson – OR State Registered Respiratory Therapist – Code CardioPL14 in Lawson)

Maintain NBRC credentials for Certified or Registered Respiratory Therapist (Lawson Codes: CardioPL 03 OR CardioPL05 OR CardioPL11 OR CardioPL12)

Required: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider.
