Job summary

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs seeks a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) to provide a full range of anesthesia services at the VA. The role emphasizes quality and timeliness, with a schedule primarily Monday–Friday, 7:00am–3:30pm, and on-call duties as required.

Relocation/recruitment incentives may be authorized. The CRNA operates to the full extent of education and certification, with a strong focus on patient safety, continuous monitoring, and post-anesthesia evaluation.

Qualifications

• Ability to monitor patients and respond to anesthetic events.

Responsibilities

• Initiate anesthetic techniques including general, regional, local, and IV sedation.
• Select and apply monitoring modalities for continuous evaluation of patient status.
• Administer anesthetics, adjuvants, and fluids to manage anesthesia.
• Manage airway and pulmonary status during anesthesia.
• Facilitate emergence and recovery, administer medications and support as needed.
• Discharge patients from PACU and provide follow-up care.
• Respond to emergencies with airway management and ACLS techniques.
• Implement acute pain management modalities.

Summary

The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Certified Nurse Anesthetist (CNA) is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). The CRNA provides a full range of services emphasizing quality - timeliness - and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs (VA) mission. The CRNA practices to the full extent of their education - training - and certification. The cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be 09/30/2026 and applicants will only be referred as vacancies arise.

Duties

• Duties will include - but are not limited to: Initiating the anesthetic technique which may include general - regional - local - and IV sedation
• Selecting - applying - and inserting appropriate non-invasive and invasive monitoring modalities for continuous evaluation of the patient's physical status
• Selecting - obtaining - and administering the anesthetics - adjuvant and accessory drugs - and fluids necessary to manage the anesthetic
• Managing a patient's airway and pulmonary status using current practice modalities
• Facilitating emergence and recovery from anesthesia by selecting - obtaining - ordering and administering medications - fluids - and ventilator support
• Discharging the patient from a post-anesthesia care area and providing post-anesthesia follow-up evaluation and care - as needed
• Responding to emergency situations by providing airway management - administration of emergency fluids and drugs - and using basic or advanced cardiac life support techniques
• Implements acute pain management modalities
