ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

- Showspatients totheexamination room andpreparesthem for the provider.
- Recordspatients’past medical history, vaccine status, vital statistics, and medication reconciliation.
- Maintains compliance withinthe department andclinic, as well as withinstate and federal regulations and policies.
- Working knowledge ofphone:answers, greets,anddirectsby phone.Takesmessages and documentsinthepatient’srecord.
- Caresfor instruments,i.e.,cleaning, packaging,andsterilizing (where sterilization equipment isavailable).
- Participates in mandatory in-services and attends staff meetings.
- Followspolicies and procedures.
- Demonstrates knowledge of emergency preparedness andparticipatesin drills.
- Respects the confidentiality of patient records and uses complete discretion when discussing patient informationin accordancewithHIPAA.
- Utilizes all department forms and documents inElectronic Medical Records (EMR)appropriately.
- Identifiesvictims and the process for reporting abuse.
- Collects, labels, and transportsall specimens appropriately.
- Demonstrates proper techniques when settingup forprocedures.
- Demonstrates knowledge of emergency and routine equipment and procedures.
- Collaborates with patient care planning. Activelyparticipatesin education specific to patient diagnosis andneeds.
- Assistsproviders with special tests and procedures.
- Acts as a resource person to other staff members.
- Maintainsa positiveand supportivebehavior towardsteam members,staff members,and other departments within the organization.
- Participates in process improvement teams or in interdepartmental efforts.
- Assessesevery patient for safety,medicationdosage appropriateness,and other needs.
- Actsas a liaison between patients, families, providers,and staff.
- Completesworkload as assigned.
- Administersmedicationandperforms treatmentin accordancewithstandards of care. Translatesmedications into pediatric doses andusesproper equipment for the patient’s size and age.
- Floats to other clinical departments as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements,maintainingadherence to departmental, hospital, state, and federal standards and policies.
- Follows all infection control, safety, and risk management procedures tomaintaina safe environment for patients, the public, and staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be at least 18 years of age (21 for positions requiring driving, with a valid driver’s license).
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must successfully pass a background check.
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and breath alcohol test (if applicable).
- Must complete an Employee Health meeting prior to starting employment.
EDUCATION, LICENSURE(S), AND CERTIFICATION(S)
Required
Preferred
Successful completion of a Medical Assistant Course.
Must be Certified or Registered.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (orbe obtainedwithin ninety (90) days of hire).
EXPERIENCE
Required
Preferred
One (1) year experience with patients in a clinic setting.
