UC San Diego Health is seeking a Certified Phlebotomy Technician for the Vista location. Under direct supervision, you will perform specimen processing, phlebotomy, heel and finger sticks, and customer service in a busy lab environment.

You will ensure accurate record keeping and maintain safety standards. Candidates must hold California CPT certification, have experience in a hospital or large lab, and demonstrate communication skills.

Under direct and constant supervision, performs specimen processing, accessioning, phlebotomy, heel and finger sticks, customer service, clerical duties, effective communication with laboratory customers, problem resolution, record keeping, supply inventory and maintenance, as well as cleaning and maintaining a safe work environment. Additional duties will include operation of instruments, preventative maintenance as appropriate to each section/department assigned. Performs all duties in a manner consistent with current laboratory safety standards. (See general non-technical section for details). For technical duties related to a specific section, see that section of this JDC. Must have current Phlebotomy Certification issued by the State of California Laboratory Field Services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT).
  • Knowledge of Hospital Isolation, Infection Control protocols, patient comfort/safety.
  • Experience working in a related lab, preferably in a large, complex healthcare system.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate skills in basic collection and specimen preparation, storage, and disposal of specimens.
  • Knowledge of Scientific Terminology.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • BLS or BART
  • Two (2) years of hospital experience.
  • One to two (1 - 2) years of experience with hospital automation.
  • Proven experience with specimen processing.
  • Experience with pediatric draws
  • Demonstrated experience working in a high-volume lab.
  • Valid California Driver's License.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and a pre-employment physical.
  • Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on-call, and various locations based on the 24-hour Medical Center's business needs.
  • Must work variable shifts, weekend rotations, holidays, and swing shifts.
  • May be required to travel to other UCSD sites.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $65,020 - $85,796 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $31.14 - $41.09

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
