Job summary

MemorialCare is seeking a Per Diem Phlebotomist for night shifts in Laguna Hills, CA. This role supports the Clinical Lab Services Admin team with venipuncture, specimen collection, data entry, and compliance with infection control standards in a fast-paced hospital setting.

The successful candidate will have CA phlebotomy certification, at least one year of venipuncture experience, and a commitment to patient safety.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of specimen collection techniques and handling required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs venipuncture and finger-stick collection per protocol.
  • Maintains accurate patient identification and proper specimen labeling.
  • Performs pre- and post-analytic data management and documentation.
  • Adheres to infection control policies and safety procedures.
  • Participates in department meetings and quality improvement initiatives.

Location: Laguna Hills, CA.

Department: Clinical Lab Services Admin

Status: Per Diem

Shift: Nights (8 Hours)

Pay Range: $26/hr

Position Summary

This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of SaddlebackMedical Center. The employee shall support Orange Coast Medical Center’s strategic plan and participate in and advocate performance improvement/patient safety activities. The Certified Phlebotomy Technician I will perform blood collection activities in accordance with Saddleback Medical Center Laboratory Services department standards and procedures. The Certified Phlebotomy Technician I will perform pre-analytic, post-analytic and data management under the direction of a Clinical Laboratory supervisor or other appropriately California licensed personnel. The Certified Phlebotomy Technician I will demonstrate the skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served.

Essential Function and Responsibilities of the Job
  • Performs venipuncture and finger stick specimen collection activities according to laboratory protocol.
  • Follows laboratory protocol to ensure proper identification of patients and specimens.
  • Performs pre-analysis and post-analysis of laboratory orders according to department protocols and procedures.
  • Evaluates quality control and assurance requirements where applicable.
  • Provides quality laboratory service to clients, patients, physicians and peers.
  • Ability to meet department scheduling and attendance requirements.
  • Requires effective communication, verbally, in writing and through other means.
  • Consistently applies infection control policies and procedures.
  • Attends and actively participates in department specific education, training, in-services, process improvement initiatives and staff meetings.
  • Participates in performance improvement projects in the laboratory.
  • Ensures equipment and safety devices are used as intended and designed.
  • Ensures compliance at all times with hospital and laboratory policies and procedures. Performs data management and documentation activities.
  • Ability to be at work and be on time.
  • Ability to follow company policies, procedures and directives.
  • Ability to interact in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask.
  • Position includes working every other weekend and Holidays.
  • This is a night shift phleb job. Coverage needed every other Saturday.

Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Minimum Requirements
Qualifications/Work Experience
Education/License/Certification
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience performing venipuncture preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in the clinical laboratory and acute care setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of specimen collection techniques, equipment and specimen handling required. Knowledge of current information system preferred.
  • One (1) year of experience in specimen processing preferred.
  • High School graduate or equivalent preferred
  • Current certification as a Phlebotomist Technician in the state of California.
  • Current AHA BLS preferred
  • Position includes working every other weekend and Holidays.
  • This is a night shift Phleb job, coverage needed every other Saturday.
