Job summary

Montefiore Medical Center in Mount Vernon, NY is seeking a Phlebotomist to join its lab team. Under supervision, you will obtain blood specimens, review requisitions, and prepare samples for analysis while maintaining patient care and safety standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Phlebotomy certification from an accredited agency.
• Previous experience as a phlebotomist.
• Basic Life Support Certification.

Responsibilities

• Check test requisitions for correctness and completeness before collecting samples.
• Perform venipuncture on adults, newborns, and pediatric patients using appropriate needles.
• Accession specimens in the lab information system with 100% accuracy.
• Place specimens in the correct area for Central Accessioning/Labs.
• Maintain supplies to ensure department operation.
• Answer phone calls and route test order inquiries.
• Follow infection control procedures and QA standards (OSHA).
• Train others in phlebotomy techniques when required.
