Job summary

MercyOne Central Iowa Medical Center in Des Moines seeks a Pharmacy Technician to support delivery of pharmaceutical care. Responsibilities include preparing medication orders, delivering meds and IV admixtures, stocking and restocking, and assisting pharmacists.

This role operates under a licensed pharmacist, with rotating shifts. Must have national certification, Iowa Board registration, and comply with mandatory abuse training. Excellent teamwork and integrity are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED when nationally certified through NHA.
• PTCB nationally certified technicians do NOT require HS diploma or GED.
• National Pharmacy Technician Certification and registered with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy at time of hire and proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training for child and dependent adult abuse within three (3) months of hire.
• Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
• Must possess a personal presence characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health.

Responsibilities

• Prepare medication orders.
• Deliver medications and IV admixtures to patient rooms, critical care areas, and other ancillary areas.
• Credit patients and restock usable medications/IVs returned to the pharmacy.
• Assist pharmacists with audits and complete assigned unit inspections.
• Restock automated medication dispensing machines.
• Restock tackle boxes and cart inserts (crash carts, airway carts, latex carts) and complete check in/out process.
• Communicate stock utilization and ordering needs.
• Compound and label extemporaneous liquid and solid products for patients according to procedure.
• Prepare IV admixtures including TPNs, chemotherapy IVs, IV piggybacks, and syringes following strictly described, specific policies and procedures.
• Provide training and mentoring to new employees and assist in directing workflow as needed.
• Perform other duties as needed and assigned by the manager.
• Maintain a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, and other policies and procedures to ensure adherence.

Job description

Provides technical support in the delivery of pharmaceutical care to clients of MercyOne Central Iowa Medical Center. Technical support includes the preparation and delivery of medications and sterile products, stocking and ordering of drugs and other products. Technical work is performed under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The position works on a rotating shift on a varied/mixed schedule.
