The Certified Inpatient Pharmacy Technician I supports pharmacists in ensuring the safe, accurate, and timely distribution of medications to hospitalized patients. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, selecting, counting, non‑sterile compounding, packaging, labeling, and delivering medications. As an entry‑level role, this position also involves maintaining inventory, operating pharmacy automation systems, and adhering to safety protocols and regulatory standards.
Verifies quantity on hand (QOH) and adjusts inventory records as necessary; promptly reports discrepancies to the on‑site buyer.
When inventory counts are incorrect, updates Omnicell with the correct quantity and earliest expiration date, and escalates significant discrepancies to the buyer.
Notifies the buyer of increased usage trends in medications or supplies.
Identifies medications frequently expiring and recommends PAR level adjustments to the buyer for evaluation.
Ensures proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and follows safety protocols when handling hazardous medications.
Maintains accurate inventory of controlled substances (CII‑CV), including documentation and reconciliation of records. Immediately reports unresolved controlled substance discrepancies to a supervisor.
Pharmacy Technicians will be working with chemotherapy and hazardous medications on a daily basis and compounding is a primary job duty.
