Pharmacy Technician – Certified
Job Overview
Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service. Assists pharmacists in the preparation and distribution of prescription medications. Requires national certification as a pharmacy technician and adherence to all applicable statutes, regulations, and company policies.
Reporting Relations
Accountable to and reports to the District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Health Wellness Home, Store Operations and Perishables, Pharmacy Department Manager, and Staff Pharmacists.
Primary Responsibilities
- Deliver friendly, caring customer service, greeting customers, learning names, and assisting in locating products.
- Handle telephone inquiries, provide prompt and helpful responses, and take prescription orders over the phone.
- Accept new written prescription orders and telephoned refill requests at the discretion of the supervising pharmacist.
- Gather required patient information, prepare prescription drug products, affix labels, and process prescriptions for mailing or dispensing.
- Submit insurance claims, log invoices, and file prescriptions after dispensing.
- Report medication errors to appropriate personnel.
- Order, check‑in, and stock pharmacy supplies and maintain accurate inventory logs.
- Perform cash transactions and maintain a clean dispensing area.
- Assist with third‑party insurance billing and troubleshooting.
- Administer vaccines as authorized by law.
- Maintain adherence to personal hygiene and dress guidelines.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Assist in other areas of the store as needed.
- Perform other job‑related duties and special projects as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Logical or scientific thinking to solve problems involving abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to perform arithmetic, algebraic, and geometric calculations.
- Strong written communication skills, including composing technical correspondence.
- Technical manual usage, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to evaluate technical data.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certification as a licensed pharmacy technician through an accredited national program; ongoing continuing education required to maintain license.
- Preferred: Previous experience as a pharmacy technician or clerk.
- Vaccination certification, if required by law.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, and a negligible amount constantly.
- Visual acuity from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet, with or without correction, and sufficient depth and color perception.
- Perform activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions.
Working Conditions
The position is in a retail store setting with a fast pace. Employees must handle multiple tasks including filling prescriptions, answering phones, and serving customers. Occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals, solvents, and chemotherapy drugs may occur.
