Pharmacy Technician Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision, following state, federal, and company policies.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
• If PTCB certified, assist and coach pharmacy technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems and cashiers in the operation of the pharmacy cash registers.
• Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience.

Customer Experience

• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
• Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
• Model and share customer service best practices with all team members, including interpersonal habits (greeting, eye contact, courtesy) and Walgreens service traits (offering help proactively, identifying needs, servicing until satisfied).
• Develop strong relationships with valuable customers.

Operations

• Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under supervision, reviewing and complying with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
• Perform duties assigned by Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, and Store Manager, including using pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information, ensuring correct entry, filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying medication correctness, and checking for possible interactions.
• Assist pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow.
• Immediately report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to Company policies and procedure regarding pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program.
• Strictly adhere to the Walgreen Co. policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing.
• Register all related sales on the assigned cash register, collect and handle cash as required, and guide customers to the OTC aisle when possible.
• Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s personal attention, including physician calls.
• Process (correct and resubmit) manual claims for third‑party prescription services efficiently, and perform other clerical duties as assigned.
• Assist the Pharmacy Department with inventory management, including ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments; maintain knowledge of asset protection and file claims for warehouse overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged goods involving Rx drugs.
• Assist the pharmacist with clinical services: collecting and properly labeling blood/urine samples and coordinating other clinical services as required.
• Assist Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in developing and maintaining relationships with the local medical community, including physicians, nurses, and other health‑care providers.
• Assist with exterior and interior maintenance to keep the Pharmacy Department stocked, clean, neat, and orderly.
• Comply with all company policies and procedures; maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
• Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.

Training & Personal Development

• Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program or state‑required certification/registration, or earn it as a condition of promotion to senior technician.
• Attend training and complete PPLs requested by Manager; acquire continuing education credits and stay current in healthcare and pharmacy developments.

Basic Qualifications

• Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens.
• Prefer good math skills for accurate prescription filling, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
• Prefer good computer skills.
• Prefer knowledge of store inventory control.
• Prefer PTCB certification.

Salary Range: $18 - $21.5 / Hourly
