Responsibilities
- Assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy and other Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with state, federal, and company policies.
- Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. If PTCB certified, coach pharmacy technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems and cashiers in the use of pharmacy cash registers.
- Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience.
Customer Experience
- Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive experience.
- Model and share customer service best practices with all team members, including interpersonal habits (greeting, eye contact, courtesy, etc.) and Walgreens service traits (offering help proactively, identifying needs, servicing until satisfied, etc.).
- Develop strong relationships with most valuable customers.
Operations
- Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy and review pharmacy codes of conduct.
- Perform duties assigned by Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, and Store Manager including entering patient and drug information into systems, filling prescriptions, verifying medication accuracy, and checking for interactions.
- Report prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to Company policies and the Quality Improvement Program.
- Adhere to Walgreens policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing during all applicable prescription dispensing activities.
- Register all related sales on assigned cash register, collect and handle cash as required, and escort customers to the OTC aisle when possible.
- Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s personal attention, including those to physicians.
- Process, correct, and resubmit manual claims for third‑party prescription services efficiently, and perform other clerical duties as assigned.
- Assist and support Pharmacy Department with inventory management activities such as ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments.
- Maintain knowledge of asset protection techniques and file claims for warehouse overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged goods involving prescription drugs.
- Assist pharmacist in administering clinical services, including collection and labeling of blood/urine samples and coordinating with Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers.
- Support Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in developing and maintaining relationships with local medical community members, including physicians, nurses, and other health care providers through detailing and outreach.
- Assist with exterior and interior maintenance to ensure the Pharmacy Department is stocked, clean, and orderly.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures; maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
- Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
Training & Personal Development
- Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or state‑required certification/registration. Achieve PTCB certification as a condition of promotion to senior technician if not already certified.
- Attend training and complete PPLs requested by Manager, acquiring continuing education credits.
- Maintain knowledge and skill in healthcare and pharmacy, including latest news and developments.
Basic Qualifications
- Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
- Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens.
- Prefer strong math skills for accurate prescription filling, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
- Prefer good computer skills.
- Prefer knowledge of store inventory control.
- Prefer PTCB certification.
