Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certified as a licensed technician through a certified national program required; must maintain CE requirements.
  • Vaccination certification required if administering vaccines, as required by law.

Responsibilities

  • Provide prompt, friendly customer service and greet customers with a smile.
  • Handle inquiries that do not require pharmacist judgment.
  • Accept new prescriptions and telephoned refill requests as directed by the supervising pharmacist.
  • Contact doctors for refills as needed.
  • Gather and maintain accurate patient information to prepare prescriptions.
  • Assist pharmacists in preparing prescription drug products for dispensing.
  • Prepare and affix labels and prepare prescriptions to be mailed.
  • Submit insurance claims and assist with third-party billing.
  • File prescriptions after dispensing and report medication errors.
  • Order, check in, stock pharmacy supplies and log invoices.
  • Perform cash transactions accurately.
  • Administer vaccines as allowed by law, with required certification.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information per HIPAA and HigH standards.
  • Adhere to statutes and regulations for pharmacy technicians; work as a team.
  • Maintain hygiene and dress standards and Hy-Vee policies.

There is occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals or solvents during compounding, including chemotherapy drugs. This pharmacy handles and prepares hazardous drugs; personnel of reproductive capability should be aware that exposure may cause acute and chronic effects, and that following all pharmacy policies and procedures is essential to minimizing risk.
