Job summary

Southeast Alabama Medical Center is seeking a Certified Pharmacy Technician to support pharmacists in a hospital setting. Responsibilities include stocking Pyxis cabinets, inventory rotation, compounding when needed, unit-dose packaging, narcotics handling, and assisting OR/Anesthesia teams as directed.

The role requires Alabama Tech license or ability to obtain it, PTCB or equivalent certification, and a willingness to work variable day shifts in a hospital environment.

Qualifications

• Alabama Board of Pharmacy Technician license or ability to obtain it prior to employment.
• Certified Pharmacy Technician (PTCB) or equivalent certification is required/considered.
• Hospital pharmacy experience preferred; 1–3 years as a technician in hospital or retail setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Stock and maintain Pyxis automated dispensing cabinets.
• Maintain and rotate pharmacy inventory.
• Prepare medications for cart fill, first doses and Pyxis restocks.
• Package medications for unit dose use.
• Handle narcotics as required for Pyxis restocks.
• Answer telephone calls to the pharmacy.
• Assist pharmacist as needed.
• Perform sterile IV compounding per USP 797 guidelines when assigned.
• Maintain annual competencies per USP 797 guidelines when assigned.
• Restock and maintain Anesthesia Carts when assigned to OR Pharmacy.
• Assist OR and Anesthesia staff with medication needs as directed by pharmacist.
