Centralcityhealth in Detroit, Michigan is seeking a Peer Support Specialist to provide crucial support services to clients facing mental illness, chronic health issues, or homelessness. You will act as a role model and patient advocate while assisting with resource management and daily living skills.
Required qualifications include a High School Diploma or equivalent, Peer Support Specialist Certification, and Basic Life Support Certification. Previous experience with severe mental illness is necessary, with preference for candidates with two years in the field.
The Peer Support Specialist provides peer support services to clients experiencing mental illness, chronic health condition(s), and/or homelessness. The Peer Support Specialist is an active member of the integrated care team and functions as a role model to peers, exhibiting competency in personal recovery and the use of coping skills; serving as a patient advocate and providing information and support. Performs a wide range of tasks to assist patients in regaining independence within the community and mastery over their own recovery process. Through skill building and other supportive interventions, the Peer Support Specialist can assist fellow consumers/patients in effectively utilizing resources, managing symptoms of their illness, and developing daily living skills to gain greater independence.
