Job summary

LIV Recovery seeks a compassionate Certified Peer Support Specialist to join our recovery-focused team in Saint Louis, MO. You will use lived experience to offer hope, advocacy, and practical support to people in recovery as they build wellness and connection.

Requirements include a Missouri peer support credential, ability to work in English, reliable data-entry skills, and CPR/First Aid certification preferred. Some travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Missouri peer support credential required, such as Certified Peer Specialist credentialing recognized by the Missouri Department of Mental Health, Division of Behavioral Health, or the ability to obtain within timeframe.
  • Personal lived experience with recovery from a substance use disorder, mental health disorder, or both.
  • Lived experience with homelessness or other relevant recovery-related life experience that supports effective peer engagement with clients.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Strong computer skills, including accurate data entry and information retrieval.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification preferred.

  • Build supportive, professional relationships with clients grounded in dignity, mutual respect, informed choice, hope, and self-determination.
  • Use personal recovery experience in a thoughtful and professional way to inspire hope and support client engagement.
  • Provide individual and group peer support that encourages recovery, wellness, self-care, and healthy lifestyle behaviors.
  • Assist clients in identifying recovery goals, developing practical strategies, participating in service planning, and pursuing meaningful life roles that support recovery and community integration.
  • Promote wellness planning, recovery maintenance, relapse-prevention strategies, treatment engagement, symptom management, and natural and community supports.
  • Communicate professionally with clients, team members, supervisors, and community partners while maintaining confidentiality, professional boundaries, and continuity of care.
  • Document peer support services accurately and timely so the care team has clear, useful information to support continuity of care.

About the Role

LIV Recovery is seeking a compassionate and dependable Certified Peer Support Specialist to join our recovery-focused team. This role is ideal for someone with lived experience in substance use or mental health recovery who can use that experience professionally to offer hope, encouragement, advocacy, and practical support to people in recovery as they build long-term wellness, stability, and connection.

What You'll Do

What We're Looking For
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Current Missouri peer support credential required, such as Certified Peer Specialist credentialing recognized by the Missouri Department of Mental Health, Division of Behavioral Health, or the ability to obtain and maintain the required credential within the timeframe established by LIV Recovery and applicable program requirements.
  • Personal lived experience with recovery from a substance use disorder, mental health disorder, or both, with the ability to use that experience appropriately, professionally, and in support of clients' recovery goals.
  • Lived experience with substance use recovery, mental health recovery, homelessness, or other relevant recovery-related life experience that supports effective peer engagement with clients.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Strong computer skills, including accurate data entry and information retrieval.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification preferred.
Work Setting and Physical Requirements
  • Work may occur in diverse community or service settings, with some travel between locations required.
  • Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds or more.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is essential.
