Job summary

Mon Yough Community Services is seeking a dedicated individual to provide specialized services that promote self-determination and decision-making for clients in McKeesport. Candidates must have relevant experience, a valid PA Driver’s License, and complete peer specialist training.

This role involves supporting clients in overcoming obstacles and advocating for their needs while establishing trusting peer relationships. The ideal candidate will engage actively in the recovery process and assist clients in understanding recovery action plans.

Qualifications

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must have at least 24 months of successful work experience or 24 credit hours of education.
  • Must identify as someone who has received services for serious mental illness.
  • Completion of a peer specialist training curriculum.
  • Must have a valid PA Driver’s License.
  • Act 33/34 clearances required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized services promoting self-determination.
  • Support individuals in identifying life choices.
  • Role-model recovery and establish trusting relationships.
  • Advocate for consumers to ensure responsiveness from services.
  • Provide individual advocacy and skills training.
  • Assist individuals to locate self-help programs.
  • Help understand WRAP and Advance Directives.
  • Meet productivity benchmarks and complete documentation.

Education

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Provide specialized services to individuals in the community that promote the individual’s self‑determination and decision‑making.
  • Support individuals in identifying life choices and assist them in overcoming obstacles to achieving these goals.
  • Use personal life experiences as a recipient of services, to role‑model recovery and establish trusting relationships with peers.
  • Advocate for the consumer to ensure responsiveness from natural, community, generic and specialized services.
  • Provide individual advocacy, crisis management supports, and skills training in identified life domains.
  • Assist individuals to locate self‑help programs and advocacy organizations in the community that promote recovery.
  • Assist individual with understanding the WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan) and Advance Directives and how they are designed to be self‑management systems facilitating recovery.
  • Meet established productivity and completes documentation according to program policies and procedures.
Qualifications

Required minimum qualifications:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older, high school diploma or GED required.
  • Must have within the last three (3) years maintained at least 24 months of successful full or part‑time paid or voluntary work experience or successfully completed at least 24 credit hours of post‑secondary education.
  • Must be able to identify yourself as a person who has received or is receiving services for a serious mental illness.
  • Must have successfully completed a peer specialist training curriculum approved by OMHSAS.
  • Must have a valid PA Driver’s License.
  • Act 33/34 clearances.
