Job summary

LCMC Health in Louisiana is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) to provide basic care for adult and geriatric patients under the supervision of licensed nursing staff. You will assist with hygiene, safety, and documentation, and perform tasks delegated by nurses in accordance with policies.

The role emphasizes teamwork, accurate data collection (vital signs, weights, glucose, I&O), and using AIDET when interacting with patients.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant required for Certified PCT role.
• Prior training and/or one year of experience in a similar role is highly preferred.
• Must have current American Heart BLS or Heart saver AED where approved.

Responsibilities

• Provides basic care for adult and geriatric patients under supervision of licensed staff.
• Completes documentation of patient-related tasks.
• Performs tasks delegated by nurses and adheres to policies and scope of practice.
• Assists with data collection (vital signs, weights, glucose monitoring, I&O) and patient hygiene.
• Maintains patient safety and a clean care environment.
• Works as part of the unit team to drive patient satisfaction and safety.

Essential Functions

The Patient Care Technician works on basic care for adult and geriatric patients' needs including, but not limited to comfort, hygiene, safety, environmental cleanliness under the supervision of professional and practical nursing staff. Completes documentation of patient related tasks. Performs all functions delegated by the nurse staff and adheres to the policies, procedures, and scope of practice.

Patient Care

Assists the nurse in collection of data used for assessment of patients' conditions as assigned, including vital signs, weights, blood glucose monitoring, I&O, etc. Assists with the patient’s hygiene, nutrition and personal care needs. Completes documentation of patient related tasks.

People and Quality

Ensures patient safety by maintaining a safe environment under the direction of the nurse. Communicates effectively about patient care and needs while on duty. Supports teamwork of the unit in meeting patient needs. Utilizes AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank You) when interacting with a patient or family. Maintains a clean environment in patient care area.

Service

Supports teamwork of the unit in meeting patient needs. Completes patient rounding in accordance with patient assignments and schedule to drive patient satisfaction and safety.

Growth

Seeks knowledge and opportunities for career development and in support of unit/department growth.

Community

Accepts direction of the supervisor and LPN/RN to perform other duties as assigned and participates in LCMC's community events.
