Job summary

Popps Ferry Out-Patient Surgery is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to perform initial patient assessments, include medical history, measure intraocular pressures, refractions, and various ophthalmic tests. Responsibilities include assisting during in-office procedures, educating patients on eye health, and maintaining a clean, organized work environment.

The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, excellent customer service, and is highly organized.

Qualifications

  • Strong customer service skills and attention to detail required.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Certification as Ophthalmic Assistant required within 1 year after probation.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and gather medical history for their visit.
  • Performs technical workups, patient interviews and special testing.
  • Communicates follow-up care, scheduling, and changes in schedule to patients.
  • Maintains and cleans all equipment used.
  • Returns calls to patients and pharmacies.
  • Assists in minor surgery.
  • Interviews patients and documents histories accurately.
  • Administers topical ophthalmic or oral medications.
  • Performs refractions, keratometry, tonometry, visual fields, pachymetry, and other tests.
  • Stock and tidy rooms daily.

Job Summary

We are seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to join our team! As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will be responsible for conducting the initial assessment of a patient, including listening to their complaints or concerns, obtaining a relevant medical history, and measuring intraocular pressures, refraction, visual acuities, and more. You will also assist as needed with procedures done by the doctor in-office, help educate patients on eye health and best practices, and maintain an organized, clean work environment at all times. The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, exceptional customer service skills, and is extremely organized.

Responsibilities

Greet patients and gather medical history and relevant information for their visit

Performs technical workups, patient interviews and special testing.

Communicates with patients regarding follow-up care, surgeries, procedures, changes in schedule, symptoms, surgery scheduling, etc.

Maintains and cleans all equipment being used.

Returns phone calls to patients and pharmacies.

Assists in minor surgery.

Maintains patient confidentiality.

Efficiently and accurately interviews patients and documents histories.

Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications.

Keratometry

Visual fields

Pachymetry

Amslers

Muscle testing

Pupil exams

Topography

NFA

OCT

Fundus Photos

Dry eye testing

Qualifications

Previous experience or training in this or similar position

Successful completion of Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology. Certified Ophthalmic Assistant requirements-To be successfully completed one year after probation period of 90 days.

Strong customer service skills

Excellent organizational skills

Excellent attention to detail

Familiarity with basic computer programs, such as Outlook, Chrome, EMA and Modern Medicine (MOD MED)
