Job Description

We are looking for Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join our amazing healthcare team!

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform all treatments and modalities for client’s rehab under the guidance of a registered Occupational Therapist; maintain constant communication with registered therapists regarding patient progress, issues, or changes to the plan of care.
  • Provide updated care plan notes to the OT Manager for meetings and attend conferences as assigned; update care plans on a weekly basis.
  • Give professional input for discharge planning under supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist; obtain medically necessary equipment prior to discharge.
  • Appropriately utilize various types of therapeutic interventions including ADL, perceptual exercise, cognitive retraining, sensory integration, retraining, and fabrication of orthotic devices; seek guidance from OTR/L when clarification is needed and follow recommendations.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication on all levels of patient care with therapists, IDT members, and family; communicate with patients and staff in a courteous, respectful, and supportive manner.
  • Maintain good working relationships with therapists, consultants, and nursing staff through personal courtesy, tactfulness, and consideration of others.
  • Document in a timely manner according to facility policies including progress notes, interdisciplinary notes, care plans, and discharge notes.
  • Achieve and maintain daily productivity standards; current standard is 70% (subject to change by Director with written notification).
  • Demonstrate proficiency with basic PC skills and ability to document in the electronic medical record in a timely manner.
  • Be responsible for care and economical use of equipment and supplies; report any equipment problems to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
  • Participate in timely and appropriate continuing education seminars, literature surveys, and professional meetings.
  • Teach and supervise Occupational Therapy assistant students as required.
  • Monitor assistive devices for safety and good repair on an ongoing basis.
  • Observe safety precautions in the use of therapeutic modalities; use personal protective equipment when using hazardous chemicals; follow precautions related to infectious waste; use proper body mechanics in bending and lifting; use proper safety techniques and comply with all safety policies of the organization.
  • Transport patients to and from department.
  • Comply with tardiness, attendance policies, and departmental call‑in procedures for HHC.
Qualifications
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice as a COTA in the State of Connecticut.
  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with a program for Occupational Therapy Assistant required.
  • Prior experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Must be able to lift patients/residents, medical equipment, supplies, etc., >50 lbs.
