Job summary

The University of Miami Hospital & Clinics seeks a Certified Nursing Assistant to support patient care in the 9 North Surgical Oncology & Bariatrics unit. Duties include hygiene assistance, feeding, mobility, vital checks, and ensuring patient comfort under supervision.

Requirements include a State of Florida CNA license, a high school diploma or equivalent, and 0–1 year of relevant experience. Full-time schedule may include days, nights, and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Provides for patients’ personal hygiene and basic care under supervision.

• Administers basic procedures and applies non-sterile dressings as directed.
• Collects specimens and monitors vitals as assigned.
• Responds to patient call lights and requests promptly.
• Maintains safe, clean patient environment and transports equipment.
• Communicates patient conditions to the assigned nurse for assessment.
• Records food and liquid intake and monitors patient signals.
• Assists with walking and repositioning to prevent bedsores.
• Adheres to University policies and protects assets.

Work Shift: Full-Time: 3 X 12 hrs. Days, Nights, Weekends may be required

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

• 1. Provides for patients’ personal hygiene by giving bedpans, urinals, baths, backrubs, shampoos, and shaves, and assisting with showers.
• 2. Assists with meals and feeds patients, ambulates, turns, and positions patients, and provides fresh water and nourishment between meals.
• 3. Administers enemas, douches, non-sterile dressings, surgical preps, ice packs, heat treatments, therapeutic and sitz baths, and applies restraints.
• 4. Performs sugar and acetone urine testing, specimen collection, and post-mortem care.
• 5. Answers patients’ call lights and requests promptly.
• 6. Maintains a safe and attractive environment for patients and staff and transports patients and equipment.
• 7. Reports patient conditions to the assigned nurse to ensure professional assessment.
• 8. Measures and records food and liquid intake and output, and checks and records vital signs.
• 9. Provides patient help with walking, exercising, and moving in and out of bed.
• 10. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
