Job summary

Hillsboro Health (Hillsboro Area Hospital) is seeking a part-time Certified Nursing Assistant to support patient daily living activities under RN/LPN supervision. You will help with hygiene, mobility, vital signs, and safety while documenting care and responding to patient needs.

Weekend and holiday shifts are included. Applicants should be able to read, write and communicate in English; a high school diploma or GED is preferred, and CNA certification is required or anticipated.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED is preferred.
• Must have the ability to follow written and verbal directions.
• CNA experience is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living and maintain a safe, clean environment.
• Take and record vital signs, height, weight, intake/output when applicable.
• Notify nurse of changes in patient condition in a timely manner.
• Keep written notes of assignments and pertinent patient information.
• Answer call lights promptly and transport patients as needed.
• Maintain patient room neatness and confidentiality.

Scheduled workdays and times could vary and will include weekends and holidays.

• Supports and promotes an environment conducive with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the hospital.
• Assist patients to ensure their cleanliness, grooming, nourishment, rest, activity, and elimination in a manner conducive to the patient’s comfort and safety.
• Take and record vital signs, height, weight, intake and output, and measurements as applicable, in an accurate and precise manner.
• Notifies nurse of changes in patient’s condition in a timely and appropriate manner
• Keep written notes of specific assignments and record pertinent information about the patients.
• Promptly answers call lights.
• Transports patients as needed though the facility.
• Maintains confidentiality of all patients, hospital, or physician related information
• Assists with daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning of equipment, work, and storage areas.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

• Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.
• Graduation from high school or GED is preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

• Successful completion of a vocational program for nursing assistants including the State of Illinois Competency Exam or completion of required portion of a RN program
• CPR certification or willing to obtain within 30 days of employment.
• In compliance with Criminal Background Check requirements

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing and walking
• Required to climb, balance, stoop, and kneel.
• Required to use arms, hands, and fingers for repetitive grasping, pulling, and pushing and feeling.
• Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, any workload exceeding 50 pounds will require assistance.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Works in well light, climate-controlled setting
• May be exposed to communicable diseases, unpleasant sights, odors, and materials.
• The noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate.
