La Rabida Children’s Hospital provides specialized, family-centered health care to children with medically complex conditions, disabilities, and chronic illness. Through expertise, compassion, and advocacy we help children and their families reach their fullest potential, regardless of their ability to pay. The hospital is not-for-profit, licensed for 49 beds, and supports transitions from neonatal or pediatric intensive care to home through medical, rehabilitative, and developmental care, along with training families to continue treatments at home. La Rabida also offers extensive rehabilitation for wound or burn recovery and treatment for exacerbations of chronic conditions. The hospital’s pediatric patient-centered medical home provides primary care to children with complex medical conditions and their siblings, with specialty services for conditions such as sickle cell disease and diabetes. The organization also offers forensic and treatment services for children exposed to abuse and neglect, comprehensive assessments for wards of the state, early intervention for children 0–3 years old, and care coordination for medically complex children covered by health plans in Cook County.
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, supporting infants, children, adolescents, and young adults with chronic medical conditions. Common patient diagnoses include sickle cell anemia, diabetes, asthma, severe burns, and trauma-related cases.
