University of California, Irvine Health is seeking a Nursing Assistant who will support professional nursing staff by taking vital signs, assisting patients with hygiene, and helping maintain a safe, clean unit.

The role requires CNA or LVN credentials (or enrollment in an accredited nursing program with at least one clinical semester) and current BLS. Must be able to float between Orange and Irvine locations, and be available for weekends/holidays.

Your Role on the Team

Position Summary

The Nursing Assistant aids professional and technical nursing personnel primarily by accomplishing a variety of duties and procedures which are directly related to patient care. Primary duties include taking and recording vital signs, assisting patients with hygiene and elimination, and maintaining a clean and safe unit environment. Will assist with stocking unit supplies, operating hospital equipment as directed, performing routine clerical tasks, and assisting with other related duties as assigned.

What It Takes to be Successful

Required Qualifications

• Understanding of basic medical terminology
• Required to float between the Orange and Irvine locations as needed.
• Nursing Assistants hired prior to May 2010 who did not possess certification as a Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) are not required to obtain it at this time
• Must be able to read, write and speak effectively in English
• Must be Certified Nurses Assist., Licensed Vocational Nurse, or enrolled in accredited nursing prog. with completion of at least 1 clinical semester.
• Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively in a therapeutic way
• Demonstrated patient care experience, preferably in an acute care setting
• Current BLS certification upon hire (must be issued by the AHA)
• Approved workplace violence responder training program within 30 days of hire and annually thereafter
• Ability to work weekends and holidays
