Job summary

OrthoNebraska is seeking an Extended Recovery Certified Nursing Assistant to support registered nurses in post-operative orthopedic care. You will assist with daily living activities, promote early mobilization, and ensure patient safety and comfort.

This full-time night-shift role (36 hours per week, three 12-hour shifts) involves collaboration with the care team, attention to infection control, and accurate documentation to support recovery and smooth clinic operations.

Qualifications

  • Nebraska CNA license (state registration) required.
  • BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

Job description

Position Summary: Extended Recovery Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) – Provide essential support to registered nurses, delivering high‑quality care to post‑op orthopedic patients, encouraging early mobilization, assisting with daily living, offering emotional support, and ensuring patient safety throughout recovery.

Position Details

Full‑time, night shift; 0.9 FTE / 36 hours per week; three 12‑hour shifts (6:45 pm–7:15 am) with built‑in weekends/holidays.

Position Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Licensure: Registered with the State of Nebraska as a CNA.
  • Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Experience – Prior nurse‑assistant experience preferred; 1+ year of customer service work in a healthcare setting preferred.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and effective communication skills.
  • Ability to problem‑solve and think critically.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Understanding of infection control protocols and patient‑care techniques.

Essential Job Functions
  • Perform basic patient‑care functions per protocols, policies, and standards under licensed nursing guidance to ensure quality care.
  • Demonstrate initiative and flexibility to complete workload and provide high‑quality, efficient patient care.
  • Interact with patients and health‑care professionals using appropriate communication skills to enhance efficiency, productivity, and quality of care.
  • Perform clerical tasks and patient registration activities to ensure efficient workflow.
  • Work from detailed verbal or written instructions and use judgment for routine situations.
  • Maintain patient medical records following correct procedures to ensure accurate and timely availability.
  • Comply with safety activities, policies, and procedures, and regulatory requirements such as OSHA and the Joint Commission.
  • Participate in teaching, orienting, and guiding other employees by sharing knowledge and mastery of skills.
  • Communicate effectively to solve problems in routine situations.
  • Display patience, self‑confidence, maturity, compassion, and remain a team player.
  • Perform any other duties assigned for which competency has been demonstrated.
Physical Requirements

This position is classified as Medium Work; requires exertion of 20–50 pounds occasionally, 10–25 pounds frequently, and/or >10 pounds constantly to move objects. Physical demands exceed those for Light Work.
