Overview

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) plays an integral role in the success of our team and community, assisting residents with activities of daily living and supporting Nursing Department functions in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provide physical support to assist residents with daily living activities, including lifting, transfers, bed mobility, bathing, dressing, toileting, standing, walking, exercising, serving and assisting with meals, and taking vital signs
• Observe and document residents’ health, behavior, physical and emotional condition; promptly report changes to the nurse
• Respond promptly to resident call signals and determine residents’ needs
• Promote resident safety and a clean, safe environment by observing infection control practices, following facility guidelines, and reporting unsafe conditions to the nurse
• Communicate with nurses regarding resident conditions, changes, and concerns
• Complete required documentation in a timely manner
• Provide companionship, comfort, and support to residents
• Meet federal and state in-service requirements
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Knowledge and Critical Skills

• Ability to make independent decisions and follow instructions
• Deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the public
• Capable of working with ill, disabled, elderly, and emotionally upset individuals
• Effective communication with supervisors, team members, residents, and families

Education and Experience

• Must meet all applicable state and federal requirements for this position
• Prefer 6 months or more of experience in a home care, assisted living, or long-term care facility

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have any direct reports or supervisory requirements.

Working Conditions

Tasks assigned to this position may involve exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, air contaminants, and hazardous chemicals.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged standing
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; moving, lifting, or transferring residents may involve lifting up to 75 pounds
• Ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry patients
• Ability to use abdominal and lower back muscles over time without fatigue
• Stand for extended periods; bend, stoop, stretch, twist, sit, and reach
• Fine motor skills
