Job summary

Mercyhealth in Illinois is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant to provide patient care within assigned units and float as needed. The role involves responding to call lights, documenting care, and maintaining a clean environment while supporting the care team.

Eligible candidates must have a CNA certificate, CPR/BLS certification within 90 days, and demonstrate professionalism, adaptability, and dependable teamwork in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a CNA program.
  • Current CNA certificate in applicable state.
  • Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care as assigned, per routine and scope.
  • Respond to call lights promptly and document care.
  • Maintain clean, stocked patient environment and supplies.
  • Float to units as needed to support patient care.
  • Participate in department performance improvement activities.
  • Train/precept new partners with unit educator.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESProvides patient care as assigned and per routine as defined by educational scope, according to standards of care, shift routines, and policies and procedures.Answers call lights in a timely and appropriate manner.Documents care provided according to standards.Maintains a clean work and patient environment.Maintains supplies, including scanning, stocking and ordering new supplies and disposing of expired or damaged supplies.Floats to various units based on identified patient care needs.Participates in department or unit performance improvement activities.Training/precepting new partners in collaboration with unit educatorBlood Glucose Monitoring (BGM) with lab personnelBladder scanning procedure reviewedBladder scanner training complete (check off sheet for competency)Attaching patient to remote telemetry or bedside cardiac monitorManaging and reporting collection devices:Colostomy, ileostomy or other fecal management systems: care and output measuresIndwelling catheters: care and output measuresNasogastric tubes to suctionSurgical drains under direction of supervising RNCompetent in completing vital signs: Manual process for blood pressure and required reporting of abnormal values to supervising RNDiscontinue invasive devices under the direction of the supervising RN:Indwelling (Foley) cathetersNasogastric tubesPeripherally inserted intravenous cathetersSimilar devices as appropriateEDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCECompletion of a CNA program.CERTIFICATION/LICENSURECurrent CNA certificate in applicable state.Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days.OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIESProblem Solving - Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; Gathers information and reports as appropriate; Works well in group problem solving situations; Remains calm when dealing with emotional topics.Technical Skills - Assesses own strengths and weaknesses; Pursues training and development opportunities; Strives to continuously build knowledge and skills; Shares expertise with others; Consistently performs essential duties and responsibilities.Interpersonal Skills - Focuses on resolving conflict, not blaming; Maintains confidentiality; Listens to others without interrupting; Keeps emotions under control; Remains open to others' ideas and tries new things.Motivation - Sets and achieves challenging goals; Demonstrates persistence and overcomes obstacles; Self-directed in daily work routine, remaining productive during work hours.Professionalism - Approaches others in a tactful manner; Reacts well under pressure; Treats others with respect and consideration; Accepts responsibility for own actions; Follows through on commitments.Safety and Security - Observes safety and security procedures; Reports potentially unsafe conditions; Uses equipment and materials properly; Utilizes appropriate equipment for partner/patient safety, such as lifts and gait belts.Adaptability - Adapts to changes in the work environment; Manages competing demands; Changes approach or method to best fit the situation; Able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.Attendance/Punctuality - Is consistently at work and on time, ready to accept assignment.Dependability - Follows instructions, responds to leadership direction; Takes responsibility for own actions; Keeps commitments; Completes tasks on time or notifies appropriate person with an alternate plan.LEVEL OF SUPERVISIONN/ASUPERVISESThis job has no supervisory responsibilities.PAY RANGE:$17.57 - $25.48Mercyhealth is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
