Job summary

Spaulding Nursing and Therapy Centers Brighton, Inc. is seeking a dedicated Patient Care Assistant (PCA) to support daily living activities and patient care on an onsite night shift.

You will work with an interdisciplinary team to help patients regain independence and achieve recovery goals. Responsibilities include monitoring vital signs, documenting in the EHR, assisting with bathing, dressing, feeding, and ambulatory support, and providing compassionate, patient-centered care.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
  • Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No
  • Nursing Assistant [Certified Patient Care Technician] - NCCT required
  • Experience with patient care or medical assisting in a hospital or healthcare setting. 1-2 years preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient care-related duties and clinical functions as assigned, including vital signs, EKGs, bathing and ambulation support, 1:1 patient observation for safety, and phlebotomy.
  • Document height, weight, intake/output, and vital signs in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Assist with feeding and meal setup as needed.
  • Keep patient rooms stocked, equipped, and clean; set up equipment and report malfunctions.
  • Assist with admitting and discharging patients; orient new PCA team members.

Working under the direction of licensed personnel, assists patients with activities of daily living tasks such as bathing, dressing, and eating. Also assists with taking patients' temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.

Essential Functions
  • Performs patient care-related duties and clinical functions as assigned, including, but not limited to, performing and documenting point of care, vital signs, EKGs, bathing and other sanitary needs of patients, transferring and assisting with ambulation of patients, 1:1 patient observation for safety purposes, and phlebotomy. Assist RNs and physicians with other exams and treatments as required.
  • Completes all documentation such as height, weight, intake of fluids and food, output of urine/stool/vomit/other drainage, and blood glucose results in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Assists patients with food tray setup, eating, and feeding, as needed.
  • Ensures that patient rooms are stocked, equipped, and cleaned appropriately, as needs indicate and as patient volumes change.
  • Retrieves equipment from other areas, sets up equipment, cleans equipment between patient use, and reports malfunctioning equipment per organizational policy.
  • Assists with admitting and discharging patients.
  • Facilitates orientation of new PCA team members as directed.
  • Interacts with patients, visitors, and other care team members effectively.
  • Communicates with nursing staff effectively and in a timely manner regarding issues related to patient care and condition.
  • Fosters a positive, collaborative team environment that promotes teamwork and professional growth.

Nursing Assistant [Certified Patient Care Technician] - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) required

Experience

Experience with patient care or medical assisting in a hospital or healthcare setting. 1-2 years preferred
