Job summary

Capital Health in New Jersey is seeking a full-time Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) with OB/GYN experience to join the OB Triage team. The role involves evaluating patients referred to OB triage from the ED and on-call service, and coordinating care within the OBGYN department.

The position offers strong mentorship, a long-standing midwifery presence, and 24/7 in-house shift support at the Hopewell hospital site. Excellent benefits are included.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited midwifery program with Certificate of nurse-midwifery.
• Successful completion of integration experience in an accredited midwifery program.
• American Heart Association BLS

Responsibilities

• Evaluates patients referred to OB triage from the ED and on call service.
• Works as multidisciplinary team member within the OBGYN department, consults with other members of the team to coordinate care as needed.
• CNM first assist training & support for Obstetric care privileges and continuity.
• Participates in constant labor and delivery coverage for caseload.
• Collaborates, consults, and refers with physicians in accordance with practice guidelines and nurse-midwifery regulations.
• Completes post-partum rounds and discharges in a timely fashion.
• Participates in multi-disciplinary conference and attends at least 50% of Obstetrics Department meetings annually.
• Performs continuing education to maintain licensure and prescriptive authority.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates need for and ordering laboratory and diagnostic tests. Reviews and accurately records laboratory results in prenatal record. Reviews and interprets laboratory results with client. Refers abnormal results to case manager for follow-up.
• Assesses need for referral to other healthcare providers.
• Educates patients and their families and encourages participation in healthcare related decisions.
• Participates in constant labor and delivery coverage for caseload. Exercises discretion and judgment when evaluating and determining disposition of clients in triage area appropriately.
• Collaborates, consults, and refers with physicians in accordance with practice guidelines and nurse-midwifery regulations. Acts as stand-by for unattended private deliveries when physician is unavailable. Acts as Cesarean section first assist for clients and private physicians as needed.
• Completes post-partum rounds and discharges in a timely fashion. Completes billing slip at time of discharge.
• Participates in multi-disciplinary conference. Attends at least 50% of Obstetrics Department meetings annually. Maintains contact with professional organizations.
• Participates in performance improvement activities.
• Participates in continuing education activities and obtains CEUs necessary to maintain state licensure and prescriptive authority.
• Supervises Nurse-Mid-wifery students and family practice residents during their clinical rotation at CH.
• Adapts to changing demands of workplace and assumes a leadership role in supporting co-workers adaptation to change.
