Job description

Position Purpose

Under the supervision of the unit manager or nurse on duty, as defined by the Nevada State Board of Nursing, this position provides or assists with activities of daily living and offers emotional support to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Direct supervision means direction given by the manager or nurse on duty who is periodically available at the site where care is provided or for immediate assistance.

Nature and Scope

• Provides personal hygiene, mobility, safety, and comfort to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients as directed by the professional nurse.
• Must be knowledgeable of the use of equipment specific to the area of employment.
• Annually demonstrates proficiency in body mechanics, fire safety, infection control, patient safety, CPR, and safe handling of hazardous materials.
• Decisions referred to the manager or RN on duty include: receiving information and orders from the physician, administration of medication and IVs, formulation of the patient care plan, performance of nursing procedures, and resolution of any unusual circumstances not covered by current policies and procedures or standards of care.
• Must maintain accuracy, communicate effectively with diverse people, function under stress, prioritize concurrently requested tasks, and remain courteous and tactful at all times.
• Assists in procedures that facilitate accurate documentation of patient care from pre‑admission through discharge.
• Familiar with standard operating procedures in ancillary departments to schedule diagnostic tests and treatments without conflict.
• Responsible for maintenance of unit supplies and interdepartmental communication; performs other duties as assigned.
• Provides patient care.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: Must have working‑level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking.
• Experience: Six months CNA experience preferred.
• License(s): Valid CA or NV driver’s license; must pass Renown Health’s Department of Motor Vehicle Report criteria and maintain current auto insurance.
• Certification(s): AHA BLS certification; ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada CNA certification.
• Computer/Typing: Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computer skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job‑specific competencies, access online forms and policies, and complete online benefits enrollment.
