Job summary

VNA Health in California is seeking a compassionate Certified Nurse Assistant to join our Serenity House hospice team. The Inpatient CNA works under the supervision of the Inpatient RN to provide personal care and comfort for patients at the end of life.

You will round every two hours, maintain a safe, clean environment, assist with nutrition and daily activities, and collaborate with the care team to support patients and families through a challenging journey.

Qualifications

• Active California CNA license and certification.
• Current CPR certification.
• Minimum one year of hospital or nursing home experience preferred.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions and document care.
• Self-directed with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrates empathy for terminally ill patients and families.
• Understanding hospice care philosophy.
• Knowledge of ergonomics and body mechanics.
• Basic computer skills and charting.

Responsibilities

• Provide personal care as directed by the hospice nurse, following the CNA Care Plan.
• Round on patients every two hours to monitor comfort and needs.
• Maintain a safe, clean patient environment and assist with room care.
• Assist with nutrition and daily activities for patients.
• Maintain daily activity records and assist families as needed.
• Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and ongoing training per regulations.

Job Description

VNA Health is looking for compassionate Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) to join our team at our beautiful Serenity House. The Inpatient CNA is a member of the Hospice Team who works under the supervisions of the Inpatient Registered Nurse to provide personal care and various services for patients at the end of life. The Inpatient CNA is responsible for carrying out the duties assigned in order to increase the patient’s level of comfort and to maintain personal hygiene and a safe, healthy environment for the patient.

Job Duties

• Provide personal care as directed by the hospice nurse. Completes each patient’s care as delineated in the CNA Care Plan. Rounds on patients every two hours.
• Provide environmental services as needed, maintain a safe and clean environment through care of the patient’s room and personal equipment
• Provide nutritional services to patients
• Maintain record of daily activity
• Assist patient/family/caregiver in dealing with terminal care.
• Participate in interdisciplinary group meetings, in-services and skills training to ensure compliance with JCAHO and CLHF regulations.

Qualifications

• Current and active California Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certification.
• Current CPR certification.
• One year experience in hospital or nursing home setting preferred.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions and document care given.
• Self-directing with the ability to work with little direct supervision.
• Has empathy for the needs of the ill, frail and impaired. Understands philosophy of hospice care and needs of the terminally ill.
• Utilizes proper ergonomics and body mechanic techniques.
• Basic working knowledge and skills of computers (evaluation requirement).
• Reliable transportation.
