Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of a CNA is to ensure residents receive compassionate and effective care through tasks such as:
- Assisting residents with bathing, toileting, oral hygiene, skin care, grooming, nail care, and dressing needs
- Feeding residents, providing bedside water, snacks, and transferring residents as needed, in line with nutritional plans
- Responding promptly to resident call lights and requests for assistance, following facility policies
- Maintaining resident rooms by making beds, changing linens, cleaning bedside tables, and organizing personal belongings
- Observing and reporting changes in residents’ appetite, skin condition, or behaviors
- Offering emotional support and actively listening to residents to foster trust and independence
- Protecting resident confidentiality and privacy at all times
- Documenting medical information such as vitals and assistance provided, per facility policies
- Adhering to safety, infection control, and cleanliness standards

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED (or working under a student permit)
- State Department of Health CNA certification in good standing; CNAs from other states may work for 120 days while awaiting Indiana certification; graduating students may also work for 120 days pending certification
- Basic computer skills, including familiarity with programs like Excel and Word
- Understanding of safe and effective nursing practices within Indiana
- Interpersonal skills such as:
- Assisting licensed nurses with procedures within the scope of practice
- Following written and verbal instructions
- Working independently and making sound decisions
- Dealing tactfully with residents, families, visitors, and staff
- Working harmoniously with team members
- Prioritizing tasks effectively
- Maintaining confidentiality and complying with HIPAA and corporate policies
- Exhibiting patience, enthusiasm, and maturity in resident care
- Adhering to professional ethics
- Communicating resident conditions accurately to the team
