Job summary

Baraga County Memorial Hospital is seeking a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) for full-time work in a hospital setting. The role involves assisting nursing staff with essential patient care, hygiene, mobility, and monitoring, while maintaining a clean and safe environment.

Qualifications

  • Must have successfully completed a formal nurse aide program.
  • Must have successfully completed a state approved competency evaluation within four months of hire.
  • Ability to deal with the public, patients and fellow staff in a position of moderate to high stress.
  • Must be able to express ideas logically.
  • Must possess typing skills.
  • Must demonstrate clinical competence in administration of quality nursing care within their scope of training.
  • Must demonstrate personal acceptance of responsibility and accountability for self and team members.
  • Must promote positive interpersonal relationships with staff, administrators, physicians and the public.
  • Must accept assignment duties within his/her knowledge, experience and educational training.
  • Must maintain confidentiality concerning the patient and family, staff members, administration and physicians.
  • Must be CPR certified every 2 years according to the Michigan Heart Association guidelines.
  • Must demonstrate a daily commitment to the Standards of Behavior and Core Values of BCMH.

Responsibilities

  • Provides and/or assists with patient's personal hygiene, positioning, mobility, nutrient intake and elimination based on age.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment for patients and reports unsafe conditions.
  • Provides repositioning techniques, back rubs, and prevention of pressure sores for bedridden patients.
  • Performs restorative nursing techniques within scope of training.
  • Documents patient response to treatment.
  • Supports teaching plan relative to the plan of care for the individual.
  • Participates in team conferences and reports information to the shift supervisor.
  • Reviews care plan and updates plan of care within CNA scope.
  • Assists with infection control measures and equipment sterilization.
  • Transports patients to and from other departments.

The Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) assists the professional and technical nursing staff in the performance of standardized duties in caring for a hospitalized patient. The hospitalized patient populace includes: caring for the injured or ill patient based upon the age of the individual served. The CNA administers basic procedures designed to provide total patient care. The CNA documents basic care given to the patient and response to that care.

Shift Supervisor.

POSITION DUTIES: ESSENTIAL
  • Supports the therapeutic plan of care by providing and/or assisting with patient's personal hygiene, positioning, mobility, nutrient intake and elimination habits based upon the patient's age.
  • Supports the therapeutic plan of care by maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients and reporting unsafe conditions or practices which may become harmful.
  • Supports the therapeutic plan of care by providing repositioning techniques, back rubs, and avoidance of pressure trauma for bedridden patients.
  • Provides restorative nursing techniques as outlined and delineated within their scope of training.
  • Documents patient response to treatment within their scope of practice.
  • Supports the team’s designated teaching plan relative to the plan of care for the individual.
  • Participates in team conferences and reports applicable information to the shift supervisor.
  • Reviews the care plan and implements revised plan of care within the CNA scope of knowledge.
  • Demonstrates supportive nursing care measures by providing skills within the scope of practice of CNA including vital signs monitoring; collecting and labeling specimens; compress applications - hot and cold; enemas, douching, etc.; transferring of patient and treatments in conjunction with training and established procedures.
  • Attends oncoming shift report and receives report on assigned patient.
  • Keeps the shift supervisor informed of potential and existing problems.
  • Attends shift meetings and offers suggestions for change within his/her educational and experienced knowledge.
  • Assists health team members in implementing change agreed upon by the shift supervisor.
  • Assists in delegated orientation functions performed in his/her area.
  • Performs patient registration in the absence of the Health Unit Coordinator.
  • Assists team members in providing patient care within the unit.
  • Assists with completing transfer packets.
  • Assists with infection control measures following policy and procedure guidelines regarding cleaning, sterilizing and replacement of instruments and equipment.
  • Seeks assistance from the shift supervisor or other team members when areas of practice circumvent performance knowledge.
  • Transports patients to and from other departments.
  • Makes scheduled changes in time or work assignments through supervisor channels.
  • Assists in the emergency department by taking vital signs, turning over ED exam rooms.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of BCMH Corporate Compliance plan, Code of Conduct and reporting process of any compliance concerns.
  • Is responsible for completing educational requirements.
  • Complies with HIPPA regulations for security and confidentiality.
  • Observes all infection control and safety policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
