Job summary

Magnolia Hospice Austin is seeking a Certified Nurse Aide to join our compassionate care team. The CNA will support patients with daily living activities, monitor comfort and safety, and work closely with licensed nurses to deliver high-quality care.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of Nursing Assistant course and state certification.
  • One year of experience in a comparable role.
  • Driver’s license and proof of auto liability insurance; no listing in the OIG Excluded Provider listing.
  • Nurse Aide training/competency eval program approved by the state and listed in good standing.
  • State nurse aide registry requirement and licensure program meeting §418.76 requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding.
  • Provide mobility assistance, including walking, transferring, and positioning.
  • Adjust beds to maintain comfort; ensure hydration and nourishment.
  • Measure and record vital signs and report changes to nursing staff.
  • Assist with basic medical procedures under supervision of licensed staff.
  • Collect specimens for lab tests as directed.
  • Monitor and document patient condition in medical records.
  • Communicate changes in patient status to the nursing staff promptly.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient environment.
  • Assist with cleaning and sterilizing equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure rooms stocked with supplies and linens.
  • Collaborate with nursing team on patient care plans.

Job Summary

The CNA will provide essential care and support to patients, ensuring their comfort, safety, and well-being. This role involves assisting with daily living activities, monitoring vital signs, and working closely with the nursing staff to deliver high-quality patient care.

Essential Functions
  • Patient Care:Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding.
  • Provide mobility assistance, including help with walking, transferring, and positioning.
  • Ensure patient comfort by adjusting beds, turning patients, and providing adequate hydration and nourishment.
  • Medical Assistance:Measure and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) and report any changes to the nursing staff.
  • Assist with basic medical procedures under the supervision of licensed nursing staff.
  • Collect specimens for lab tests as directed.
  • Observation and Reporting:Monitor and document patient condition and care provided in medical records.
  • Report any changes in patient status or behavior to the nursing staff promptly.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Environmental Maintenance:Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient environment.
  • Assist with the cleaning and sterilization of equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure patient rooms are stocked with necessary supplies and linens.
  • Team Collaboration:Work collaboratively with the nursing team to develop and implement patient care plans.
  • Participate in training and continuing education programs to stay current with best practices in patient care.
  • Support and assist fellow CNAs and healthcare staff as needed.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
  • Conforms to all applicable Agency policies and procedures.
  • Participates actively in continuing education and in-services.

Minimum Position Qualifications
  • Education:Must be 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of Nursing Assistant course and certification as required by the state in which employed.
  • Experience:One (1) year experience in a comparable job classification
  • License / Certification:Driver’s license and proof of current auto liability insurance; no listing in the OIG Excluded Provider listing
  • Has successfully completed one of the following:Training program/competency eval as specified in §418.76 (b) (c) of the Medicare regulations.
  • Competency eval program that meets §418.76 (c)
  • Nurse Aide training/competency eval program approved by the state and listed in good
  • Standing on the state nurse aide registry:
  • State Licensure program that meets requirements of §418.76
Environmental Conditions

Works under a variety of conditions in facilities and offices; ability to work flexible schedule, ability to travel locally; some exposure to unpleasant weather. Moderate noise level; tasks may involve exposure to bloodborne pathogens; moderate stress and emotional demands.

Physical Requirements

Sitting is required. Requires ability to always handle stressful situations in a calm and courteous manner. Requires working under some stressful conditions to meet deadlines and agency needs. Ability to travel.
