The Certified Medication Technician is responsible for all aspects of medication administration within the scope of his/her certification and under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse.
• Administering prescribed medications and documenting them on the Medication Administration Record (MAR) while following safety principles, infection control techniques, and the six rights of medication administration.
• Adhering to Facility policies, Pharmacy Board regulations, and proper infection control techniques during medication administration, including the use of universal precautions.
• Participating in performance improvement activities related to medication administration, such as data collection and medication audits.
• Reporting adverse patient medication reactions to a supervisor immediately and reordering/replacing medications and supplies as needed.
• Maintaining patient confidentiality and rights, as well as adhering to HIPAA regulations and ensuring confidentiality of health system and department documents.
