Job summary

Alpas Wellness La Plata is seeking a Certified Medication Technician to join its residential behavioral health program in La Plata, Maryland. You will administer medications, document in the EMR, monitor patients, and collaborate with nursing to ensure safe, compliant care.

The role requires MD board-certified CMT, CNA/GNA, CPR, HS diploma, and prior medication administration experience. Expect 3 twelve-hour shifts per week, competitive hourly pay, benefits, and opportunities for ongoing

Responsibilities

• Administer scheduled medications per MAR and prescriber orders.
• Document all administrations in EMR in real time and record reasons for refusals or omissions.
• Monitor patients for adverse reactions and report to the nurse promptly.
• Record vital signs and other clinical measurements as directed by nursing staff.
• Maintain security, organization, and cleanliness of the medication room and carts.
• Assist with medication reconciliation during admission and processing of patient-supplied meds.

As a Certified Medication Technician at Alpas Wellness La Plata, you will administer scheduled medications to patients in residential substance use disorder and mental health treatment. Working under the direction of a delegating nurse and within the Maryland Board of Nursing Medication Technician scope of practice, your primary responsibilities will include preparing and administering medications, documenting accurately in the electronic medical record, monitoring patients for medication effects and adverse reactions, and escalating all clinical findings to nursing staff. You will work closely with our Nursing team to ensure medication administration is safe, timely, and fully compliant with state regulation and facility policy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Administer scheduled oral, topical, ophthalmic, otic, nasal, and inhalant medications as permitted under the Maryland Board of Nursing Medication Technician scope of practice and under the direction of the delegating nurse.
• Verify each medication against the Medication Administration Record (MAR) and the prescriber's order prior to administration, applying the rights of medication administration without exception.
• Document all administrations, refusals, omissions, and holds accurately and in real time within KIPU, including reason codes and nurse notification.
• Monitor patients following administration for adverse reactions, side effects, and changes in condition; report all findings promptly to the nurse.
• Refer all PRN medication requests, patient symptom complaints, and any change in patient status to the nurse for clinical assessment; do not administer any medication requiring nursing judgment or assessment.
• Obtain and record vital signs and other clinical measurements as directed by nursing staff.
• Report all medication errors, near misses, and discrepancies immediately to the delegating nurse and nursing leadership in accordance with facility incident reporting policy.
• Maintain the security, organization, cleanliness, and proper storage conditions of the medication room, medication carts, refrigerated stock, and all medication supplies.
• Receive, verify, and reconcile pharmacy deliveries; monitor par levels and expiration dating; notify nursing leadership of discrepancies, shortages, or expired stock.
• Support the admission process by assisting nursing with medication reconciliation intake and the secure processing, storage, and disposition of patient-supplied medications.
• Maintain active certification in good standing and complete all required continuing education, competency validation, and annual medication administration observations.
• Utilize all required technology, company systems, and tools effectively to perform job duties.
• Exhibit excellent customer relation skills through supportive and constructive communication with co-workers and others.
• Follow adherence to all necessary regulatory and company compliance requirements (HIPAA, 42 CFR).
• May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.
• May be subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc, including TB, HIV, AIDS, and Hepatitis B viruses.
• Maintain patient confidentiality, staff confidentiality; treat staff and patients with kindness, dignity and respect.
• Comply with Patient's Rights rules.
• Attend required meetings, including on-site staff meetings and multidisciplinary team meetings.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

• Active Maryland Board of Nursing Certified Medication Technician (CMT) certification in good standing, required
• Active Maryland Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification in good standing, required
• High School diploma or GED required
• CPR certification required
• Prior medication administration experience in behavioral health or substance use disorder treatment, or withdrawal management is preferred.
• Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail in medication handling, counts, and documentation
• Sound judgment and a consistent willingness to elevate clinical concerns to nursing

Schedule:

• Full time, three 12-hour shifts per week, rotating weekends required
• Day Shift: 7am to 7:30pm
• Night Shift: 7pm to 7:30am

Compensation:

• $21 to $25/hr, commensurate with certification and experience
