The mission of Correctional Managed Care is to address the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD).

JOB SUMMARY

To provide direct nursing care to an assigned group of patients and perform nursing procedures within the scope of their education and demonstrated abilities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  1. Provides direct nursing care to assigned patients.
  2. Participates in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the nursing care given.
  3. Performs admission, discharge, and transfer procedures.
  4. Reviews and, under supervision, modifies the plan of care based on the nursing plan of care in daily assignments.
  5. Observes and records signs, symptoms, and behaviors, including physiological status; proposes revisions of interventions and outcomes.
  6. Delivers nursing interventions consistent with the state medical plan of care.
  7. Notifies appropriate staff of patient status changes; recognizes priorities and potential crises.
  8. Follows physician's orders in delivering nursing care.
  9. Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
  10. Administers medications and treatments safely and properly.
  11. Executes physician's orders for assigned patients.
  12. Prepares equipment and supplies for diagnostic or treatment procedures; assists with procedures or treatments.
  13. Adheres to infection control, isolation procedures, and aseptic techniques.
  14. Documents nursing care in patient records.
  15. Follows internal controls and reporting structures.
  16. Performs related duties as required.
EQUIPMENT

Standard patient care supplies, equipment, and mechanical devices.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Located within a prison, jail, or juvenile detention center. Security clearance and pre-employment drug testing are required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

High school or equivalent; graduation from a Licensed Vocational Nurse Program; current license/permit as a vocational nurse in Texas; no experience required.

Current BLS-HP certification required.

Salary is commensurate with relevant experience.
