Job summary

Windsor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Raymondville is seeking a Certified Medication Aide (PRN) to prepare, administer, and document prescribed medications per protocol in a fast-paced nursing facility.

The role requires state-registered Medication Aide training, good standing in the state registry, and preferred prior health care experience. Candidates will perform vital signs, monitor residents, and support daily care activities as part of a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Successful completion of State Approved Medication Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program.
• Experience preferred in health care with knowledge of universal precautions.

Responsibilities

• Administer prescribed medications and treatments per state regulations and facility policy.
• Observe and report reactions and side-effects to medications to the charge nurse.
• Take and record vital signs before medication administration as required.
• Document reasons medications are not administered.
• Prepare medications before administration and document in the resident's MAR.
• Administer oxygen only in emergencies and notify nurse on duty.
• Apply ophthalmic, otic, nasal, and vaginal medications as ordered.
• Follow all principles of safe medication administration.
• Assist with daily care tasks such as bathing, feeding, dressing, and mobility as needed.
• Help maintain cleanliness of nursing station, medication room, and supply area.

Primary Responsibilities

The Certified Medication Aide will prepare, administer, and document prescribed medications per protocol.

Essential Functions

• Administers prescribed medications and treatments as defined by state regulations in accordance with company policy and procedure.
• Observe and report to the facility's charge nurse reactions and side-effects to medication shown by a resident.
• Take and record vital signs prior to the administration of medication which could affect or change the vital signs.
• Reports to charge nurse and documents reasons prescribed drugs are not administered.
• Administer regularly prescribed medication which the permit holder has been trained to administer only after personally preparing (setting up) the medication to be administered.
• Document the administered medication in the resident's medication administration record.
• Administer oxygen via nasal cannula or a non-sealing face mask only in an emergency; immediately after the emergency, verbally notify the licensed nurse on duty or on call and document the action and notification.
• Apply specifically ordered ophthalmic, otic, nasal, and vaginal medication.
• Be able to accurately follow all principals of good medication administration.
• Assist in customary daily requirements and tasks in care and treatment such as bathing, feeding, dressing, observing intake of food, care of hair, nails, moving residents from area to area, responding to calls, etc., which includes lifting, transferring.
• Help charge nurses with the cleanliness of the nursing station, medication room and supply room.

Qualifications / Educational / Training Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Licensing Requirements

• Successful completion of State Approved Medication Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program. Good standing in the state registry is required.

Experience Requirements

• Preferred one (1) year of previous health care experience.
• Must demonstrate working knowledge of Universal Precautions and the Blood Borne Pathogen rules.
