Job summary

MedStar Health's Washington Hospital Center seeks a Certified Staff Physicist to join the Medical Physics team. The role provides QA, benchmarking and operation documentation for external beam radiotherapy equipment, and supports treatment plan parameter design under ABR/ABMP guidelines.

The successful candidate will participate in maintenance, safety programs, and annual scientific meetings, ensuring ALARA practices and compliance with state licensing requirements.

Qualifications

• Master's or Doctoral degree in medical physics, Physics, Health Physics or Engineering plus 1 year specialty training in a postgraduate program for Medical Physics.
• 6 months clinical radiation therapy physicist experience.
• ABR or ABMP certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist in brachytherapy treatments as needed and participate in journal club, chart rounds, QA meetings, morbidity rounds and technical meetings.
• Ensure weekly chart checks and calibrations at appropriate intervals for each machine; validate plans before first and second treatments.
• Follow preventative maintenance programs for equipment and minimize downtime; perform physics checks after repairs.
• Maintain QA programs for major equipment on daily, weekly, monthly, and annual cycles; uphold ALARA principles and safety records.
• Perform initial calibration, testing, and acceptance of new equipment; provide education to staff; satisfy state Maryland licensing requirements.
