Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to support outpatient clinic operations. Under RN supervision, you will assist with examinations, take vital signs, document in medical records, and prepare treatment rooms for patient visits.

You will help with patient education, manage exam room supplies, and coordinate scheduling and referrals as needed. Compliance with OSHA/DHEC/UMA guidelines is required, and certification through AMT/AAMA/NAHP/NCCT is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of an accredited medical assisting program.
• One year of patient care experience preferred.
• Six months CMA/RMA experience required.

Responsibilities

• Ensures accurate calibrations, cleaning and scheduled maintenance of clinical/lab equipment as required by OSHA, DHEC and UMA; tracked by documentation.
• Maintains and reviews patient records, charts and any other pertinent information; documents test and exam results and communicates plan of care to the patient.
• Maintains exam room supplies, instruments and cleanliness of patient care environment as required by OSHA, DHEC and UMA.
• Maintains timely flow of patient, assists with scheduling of appointments and referrals based on urgency and availability; screens patients and provides patient education.
• Observes, records and reports patient's condition, reactions to medication; triages calls and instructs patient regarding treatment and/or medication.
• Triages patients and prepares for physician exams and procedures; assists with exam, procedures and treatments; instructs patients in sample collection.
