Job summary

University of Mississippi Medical Center seeks a Certified Medical Assistant to support ambulatory OBGYN services at Mirror Lake. You will assist with patient intake, vitals, chart preparation, and basic procedures under supervision.

The role requires CMA/CCMA/RMA or equivalent credentials, strong anatomy and pharmacology knowledge, and proficient data management and patient communication skills. This is a full-time, on-site position at Main Campus Jackson.

Qualifications

• Must hold one of the following nationally recognized CMA credentials: CMA (AAMA), CCMA (NHA), CMA (NCCT), RMA (AMT), RMA (AAMP), RMA (ARMA), NRCMA (NAHP), RMA (AAH).
• Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and medical terminology.
• Strong computer and software skills; ability to manage patient data and records; effective verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Assists with direct patient care procedures and related tasks; checks in patients, obtains histories, takes vital signs, prepares charts, and assists with examinations.
• Performs routine procedures such as venipuncture, catheterization, and sterile dressing changes.
• Maintains exam rooms, sterilizes instruments, disposes of contaminated supplies, and manages stock of medications and supplies.
• Educates patients on specified medical issues within guidelines.
• Performs administrative duties: phone handling, greeting patients, updating filing systems, verifying demographics and insurance, scheduling appointments, and basic billing tasks.

• Performs routine specialized procedures such as venipuncture, catheterization, and sterile dressing changes in accordance with established protocols; collects and prepares laboratory specimens for analysis.
• Arranges examination room for instruments and equipment; sterilizes medical instruments; dispose of contaminated supplies; and maintains stocks of medications and medical supplies.
• Educates and advises patients on specified medical issues within established guidelines.
• Performs administrative duties such as answering telephones, greeting patients, updating and filing medical records, verifying demographic and insurance information, scheduling appointments, and performing billing and bookkeeping tasks.
• Practices safety, environmental, and infection control methods.
