Summary

Under close supervision, responsible for assisting providers in delivering quality health care to patients and their families.

Responsibilities

• Creates, develops, and nurtures culturally appropriate interactions; applies customer service guidelines appropriate for the situation.
• Assists providers in the delivery of quality health care, performing basic medical procedures before and after examinations, including taking vital signs, rooming the patient, performing phlebotomy, specimen collection, dressing changes, medication administration, scheduling patient appointments and procedures, and documenting care in the healthcare record.
• Provides documentation assistance as a scribe, proposes orders, and performs specialty‑specific care with appropriate training.
• Assists in ensuring smooth patient flow and helps provider and case manager manage patients.
• Maintains a clean work environment, reporting defective or missing equipment and safety hazards; assists in disaster planning and activities.
• Provides feedback on and assists in the improvement of the quality of care, ensuring Joint Commission and other regulatory standards are met.
• Ensures availability of drug stock supply, other supplies, and equipment by completing daily inventories and submitting supply requests; performs equipment inventory and maintenance and completes daily quality control testing of blood glucose meters where applicable.
• Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with other employees.
• Procures supplies, cleans, organizes office.
• Acts as a mentor or trainer for the CMA team.
• Works with department leadership to provide input on process improvement opportunities and supports implementation of change processes.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of communication skills, both oral and written, to interact with patients and families.

• Skill in setting up, maintaining, and interpreting data from a wide variety of medical equipment and monitoring devices.

Minimum Education Qualification

A certification from an accredited certified medical assistant program.

Minimum Experience Qualification

Non‑supervisory: A minimum of 2 years of Certified Medical Assistant experience. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.

Minimum Certification Qualification

• Certification in Basic Life Support required.
• CMA certification from any of the following: National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) from National Healthcare Association (NHA), or American Medical Certification Association (AMCA).
