Job summary

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle seeks a Medical Assistant I to support providers, room patients, document vitals, and assist with procedures. This full-time role requires WA CMA credentials (CMA/BLS) and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinic environment.

The position offers a comprehensive benefits package and a schedule of 7:45 am–4:15 pm, Monday–Friday at the Northwest Clinic in North Seattle, WA.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an ABHES- or CAAHEP-accredited medical assistant program or military training may satisfy the requirement.
  • Current Certified Medical Assistant in Washington state; familiar with state practice standards.
  • Interim CMA in WA and Surgical Technologist registration with 30-day submission window.
  • BLS provider card required, renewed every two years; proficient with email and word processing.

Responsibilities

  • Room patients and families to exam/procedure areas.
  • Document vital signs and other patient information per policy.
  • Assist with procedures as directed by clinicians.
  • Perform clerical tasks, patient transport, and maintain exam room flow.
  • Recognize symptoms and escalate to RN/provider as needed.
  • Perform blood draws and injections as directed.

The Medical Assistant I performs variety of patient care, technical, and administrative duties to assist practitioners and other members of health care team in providing high quality patient care through health care system. The Medical Assistant I participates as a team member in the overall functioning of the clinic and is responsible for the flow of the patients for assigned providers (as applicable) each day.

Please note that this is a full-time (1.0 FTE) position, working Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:45 am to 4:15pm at the Northwest Clinic in North Seattle, WA.

Responsibilities
  • Rooms patients and families to exam/procedure area
  • Documents vital signs and other patient information per clinic policy
  • Assists with procedures as directed
  • Conducts clerical tasks, patient transport, cleaning and restocking of exam rooms and other requests to maintain clinic flow
  • Recognizes symptoms of common medical illnesses, abnormal vs., and new/existing pain and immediately escalates to RN and/or provider
  • Performs Blood Draws as directed
  • Performs injections (ie. intramuscular, subcutaneous) as directed
Customer Service
  • Acts as a liaison between patients/families and health care providers
Qualifications

Required:

  • Completion of a medical assistant program offered by a school accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP); or
  • Military training or experience may also satisfy the training and experience requirement
  • Certified Medical Assistant in the State of Washington and must be familiar with the State's conduct and standards of practice.
  • Interim Certified Medical Assistant in the State of Washington and must be familiar with the state’s conduct and standards of practice.
  • Surgical Technologist Registration in the State of Washington State and must be familiar with the State's conduct and standards of practice (Application must be submitted within 1 st 30-days of hire)
  • Current BLS AHA Health Provider Card (or equivalent course, such as by the American Red Cross) and renewal required every two years
  • Proficient in email and word processing systems
  • Strong interpersonal and customer services skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, complex healthcare environment
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and problem solve
  • Ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to follow direction and guidance
  • Ability to recognize limitations and seek help
  • Ability to identify learning needs and plan learning opportunities

The hourly pay range for this position is from $29.77 to $42.39 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.
