Job summary

Duke Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to support the Duke GI-Endoscopy of Raleigh in patient intake, vitals, EMR updates, scheduling, and discharge. The role is on-site in Raleigh with day shifts and no weekend work.

Requirements include graduation from an accredited MA program (CAAHEP/ABHES preferred), MA certification, and BLS. Level I or II experience may apply, with a $7,500 commitment bonus and $2,000 relocation assistance for qualifying candidates.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program is strongly preferred.
• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA is required.
• BLS certification is required.
• Level I candidates have no experience; Level II requires 1 year of clinic experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist clinical staff with patient intake, review history, and document vitals.
• Direct patients to exam rooms and provide gowns/drapes as needed.
• Prepare and administer injectable medications as directed.
• Prepare and perform Breath Testing procedures.
• Schedule clinic and procedure appointments and manage reminders.
• Collect notes and obtain consent forms per provider request.
• Return patient calls and check in baskets daily.
• Discharge clinic patients and ensure smooth transition of care.
• Support phlebotomy and related procedural tasks.
• Perform other delegated clinical duties under supervision.

JOB SUMMARY

Duke GI of Raleigh is located on the Duke Raleigh Hospital Campus in Raleigh, North Carolina. The certified medical assistant will assist the clinical and provider staff with all aspects of patient care in the clinic setting, including: patient intake, vital sign collection, updating EMR, scheduling and discharge.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform patient intake reviewing medical history, taking vital signs, medication reconciliation, confirming purpose of visit.
• Direct and accompany patient to exam room; providing gowns/drapes as needed
• Preparation and drawing of injectable medications
• Prepare and administer Breath Testing
• Schedule clinic and procedure appointments
• Prepare, gather clinic notes, and obtain consent forms and instructions, as per medical provider request.
• Return patient phone calls/messages and check in baskets daily
• Discharge clinic patients
• Perform Fibroscan
• Perform Phlebotomy
• Perform other clinical functions as delegated and supervised by the physician

JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

• Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) strongly preferred.
• High school or GED graduation required.
• Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required.
• BLS required
• Level I -- No experience required.
• Level II -- 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified in a clinic

JOB HOURS

The schedule for this position is day shifts, Monday-Friday, with no weekends or holidays.
