Overview of the Position

The Medical Assistant is an essential member of the patient center medical home team. The Medical Assistant is responsible for coordination of care between the patient and medical provider, while helping support the clinical team with effective and efficient delivery of health care services.

Education and Experience
  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited school
  • National CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) or RMA (Registered Medical Assistant) certification required
  • BLS certification required
Required Skills / Abilities
  • Maintain current general medical knowledge.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, co‑workers, and guests.
  • Ability to take initiative and handle various tasks simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, regulations, and protocols.
  • Knowledge of data bases (e.g., EMR systems).
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
  • Familiar with medication names and usage.
  • Medical terminology.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • This position has no direct reports.
Essential Job Functions
  • Assist the medical provider in the evaluation and treatment of clients, including patient intake, taking and recording of vital signs, diagnostic procedures, and lab work.
  • Assist with medication refills when needed.
  • Facilitate efficient patient flow and room turnover.
  • Keep work area neat, tidy, and well supplied.
  • Stock exam room with supplies daily.
  • Perform data entry tasks for reporting purposes.
  • Respond to phone calls in a timely manner.
  • Perform practice specific duties in accordance with recommended guidelines.
  • Participate in training opportunities to enhance knowledge such as conferences, continuing education, and in‑service events.
  • Utilize data systems to assist with chart preparation prior to patient appointments.
  • Develop and maintain working knowledge of all equipment needed to perform duties.
  • Understand and administer vaccines and immunizations to pediatric and/or adult patients.
  • Communicate effectively with other healthcare entities, departments, and guests.
  • Manage and maintain medical records.
  • Schedule appointments.
  • Provide appropriate education to patient and or patient’s family.
  • Help in other offices when needed (may include travel).
  • Help maintain medical supply inventory.
  • Assist in training new medical assistants to the organization in the standard working procedures of HopeHealth.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements

Must have direct client contact. Must possess the ability to communicate in the dominant language of the geographic region. Must be able to lift 50 pounds independently. Vision and hearing corrected to within normal limits is required. Must have manual dexterity to key in data; utilize computer, grab, grip, hold, tear, cut, sort, and reach.
