Job summary

Care for Kids is seeking Certified Medical Assistants (CMAs) for our Houston offices. CMAs and LVNs, dubbed Utility Players, will handle front desk duties and clinical tasks to keep clinics running smoothly.

Responsibilities include triage, assisting providers, EMR documentation, vaccinations, IVs, phlebotomy, and patient education. Requires CMA/LVN with Texas license and BLS certification; pediatric experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 months experience in pediatric office, urgent care, or hospital setting.
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or LVN with Texas license; BLS certification required.
• Knowledge of HIPAA, OSHA, CLIA-Waived testing, and EMR software.

Responsibilities

• Triage patients on arrival.
• Assist the provider with procedures and patient care.
• Document visits in EMR (eMDs).
• Front desk tasks: insurance verification, patient registration, payments.

The Role:

Utility Players handle both front desk duties (such as insurance verification and patient registration) and clinical tasks, including triage, radiology, curbside labs, and more. The Culture and Team

Our clinicians are supported by the Clinic Management and Clinical Operations teams, which assist with tasks such as inventory management and continuing education to ensure optimal performance. Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

• Triage patients upon arrival.
• Communicate with the provider when the patient is ready, summarizing symptoms and any abnormal vitals.
• Document visits in the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system (eMDs).
• Assist the provider with procedures and patient care, including splinting, radiology, vaccines, medication administration, phlebotomy, and more.
• Administer and document medications as directed by the provider.
• Prepare, clean, and maintain exam and treatment rooms.
• Obtain lab samples and follow up with patients once results are available.
• Provide patient education at the end of the visit and address any follow-up questions.
• Position patients for radiology procedures (training provided).
• Handle front office tasks, including insurance verification, patient registration, answering phones, and processing payments.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Passion for working with children
• Experience in a Pediatric Office, Pediatric Hospital, or Urgent Care within the past 3 years, with a minimum duration of 6 months
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) with a Texas license
• BLS certification required (online renewal accepted by the American Heart Association)
• Knowledge of HIPAA, OSHA, basic clinical procedures, CLIA-Waived Testing, and EMR software
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
