Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant (CMOA) to support ambulatory care clinics. The role includes taking vitals, patient documentation, back-office orientation, and patient flow coordination across UT Southwestern’s network in the Dallas–Fort Worth area.

New hires will undergo comprehensive orientation covering Epic systems, insurance verification, and clinical procedures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Completion of Medical Assistant training in an approved program, or one year of patient-care experience in a physician office or hospital.
• CPR or BLS certification from AHA/ARC before start date is required.
• MA certification from one of the listed national bodies (AAMA/AMT/NAHPT/NHA/AAHA) must be maintained.

Responsibilities

• Take and record patient vital signs using medical equipment and perform low-complexity procedures.
• Escort or transport patients to exam/treatment rooms as directed.
• Document completion of patient care tasks in medical records and reinforce provider instructions.
• Prepare exam rooms and ensure availability of needed patient information and test results.
• May supervise non-licensed staff and perform light administrative duties as needed.
• Participate in clinic safety, compliance, and training activities.

Job Summary

Join the UT Southwestern team as a Certified Medical Office Assistant (CMOA) working in an ambulatory care setting. As a CMOA, you will be responsible for providing an exceptional patient experience from taking patients vitals to discharging patients. CMOA's at UT Southwestern help to record patient medical histories, take vital signs, assist with minor procedures, administer medications as directed, and ensure proper documentation of patient information. You will play a valuable role in maintaining the clinic's efficiency by performing administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing medical records, and coordinating referrals. Job Duties

• Takes, records, and reports patient vital signs using medical equipment; performs procedures of low complexity such as visual acuity, development and/or musculoskeletal screening, POC testing, phlebotomy, EKG testing, and other approved clinic specific diagnostic testing.
• Escorts or transports patients to exam rooms or treatment rooms, or other areas as directed.
• Documents completion of patient care tasks in medical records, and reinforces education provided by the physician or nurse seeking assistance from the nurse or physician as appropriate.
• Assists in care of patients by preparing exam rooms for patient care, facilitating use of diagnostic equipment, and ensuring availability of needed patient information, such as results of diagnostic exams and medical records.
• Assumes responsibility for weekly autoclave temperature monitoring, POC testing QA, and monthly audit report on compliance as directed by clinic management.
• Serves as preceptor and resource for newly-hired medical assistants and medical assistant externs, actively participating in their integration into the department.
• May perform a variety of administrative/clerical duties, scheduling patient appointments, pre-certifying procedures, answering patient phones by collecting data to forward to the nurse for triage as directed.
• Inspects equipment and facilities visually and physically to ensure patient safety and proper functioning.
• May function as a clinic safety officer, verifying each employee's knowledge of fire safety and the evacuation plan for the work area as directed.
• Confirms appropriate patient consent and authorization forms are signed for research and/or medical treatment.
• Maintains current customer service, clinical, and technical skills by attending training programs and procedures. Participates in annual skills competency review.
• Maintains adequate stock of supplies as required for work area. May provide occasional working supervision to non-licensed medical and/or clerical office support personnel for clerical functions or other non-clinical activities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience and Education

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of Medical Assistant training in an approved program, or one (1) year experience patient care in a physician office practice or hospital setting required.
• CPR certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) before first day of employment is required.
• Medical Assistant certification and maintenance of current certified status obtained through one of the following:
• The American Association of Medical Assistants
• The American Medical Technologists Association
• The National Association for Health Professionals
• The National Center for Competency Testing
• The National Healthcareer Association
• American Allied Health
