Job summary

Centra Health in Dillwyn, VA is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to support clinicians and coordinate patient care. You will assist in examinations, take vital signs, manage patient histories, and document with the EMR system.

Under supervision, you will provide health promotion, administer vaccines when needed, collect specimens, and help with scheduling. A CMA certification and BLS are preferred for this role.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of a Medical Assistant program.
• Current certification or registration through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or another equivalent organization.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) completion.

Responsibilities

• Assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a provider; measures vital signs, and interviews patients to obtain health histories.
• Under the provider's direction, provides health promotion and counseling to patients and caregivers. Identifies patient care requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and caregivers. Ensures understanding of the plan of care.
• Administers medications and immunizations (injectable, oral, topical, aerosol), provides wound care, and personal health interventions at the direction of a provider, as deemed competent.
• Performs patient testing to include specimen collection, CLIA-waved testing, blood collection, and electrocardiogram
• Serve as a communication liaison for the healthcare team.
• Assists with patient scheduling and follow up care.
• Maintains accurate, detailed patient records and charts using an electronic medical record (EMR) system
• Maintains a safe and clean work environment by complying with policies and procedures, rules, and regulations.
• May perform other duties as assigned or requested and job specification can be modified or updated at any time
