Job description

About Medicus Spine & Joint

Medicus Spine & Joint is a patient-focused multidisciplinary healthcare organization providing coordinated care for patients with spine, joint, musculoskeletal, and injury-related conditions.

Our clinics operate with lean, highly accountable teams. Every team member plays an important role in creating an efficient patient experience, maintaining excellent clinical standards, and supporting providers in delivering high-quality care.

We are seeking an experienced and dependable Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) who thrives in a fast-paced outpatient clinical environment and takes ownership of patient flow, clinical preparation, documentation, and provider support.

Position Summary

The Certified Medical Assistant is a key member of the Medicus Spine & Joint clinical team and works directly with physicians, advanced practice providers, chiropractors, specialists, and clinic staff to provide an efficient and professional patient experience.

This is more than a traditional rooming position. Our CMAs help keep the entire clinical day moving.

The successful candidate will be comfortable managing multiple priorities, preparing patients and exam rooms, obtaining accurate histories and vital signs, assisting providers with procedures and documentation, coordinating clinical orders, and anticipating what providers and patients need next.

Because we operate with streamlined clinic teams, we are looking for someone who is proactive, adaptable, organized, and willing to take ownership rather than waiting to be directed from task to task.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Care & Clinical Support
  • Greet, identify, and prepare patients for examination and treatment.
  • Obtain and accurately document vital signs, medical history, medication information, allergies, chief complaints, and other required clinical information.
  • Prepare patients and examination rooms for physicians, advanced practice providers, chiropractors, and visiting specialists.
  • Assist providers during examinations, treatments, and approved inoffice procedures within applicable scope of practice.
  • Prepare clinical supplies, equipment, and procedure rooms as required.
  • Maintain appropriate infectioncontrol and patientsafety standards.
  • Provide patients with providerdirected instructions and educational information within the CMA's authorized scope.
  • Patient Flow & Clinic Operations
  • Actively manage patient flow to help providers remain on schedule.
  • Monitor exam rooms, patient readiness, and provider progression throughout the clinical day.
  • Anticipate bottlenecks and communicate with the appropriate team members before delays significantly affect the schedule.
  • Prepare for upcoming patients by reviewing schedules and identifying relevant clinical needs.
  • Turn over and prepare examination and treatment rooms efficiently.
  • Maintain appropriate clinical inventory and notify the appropriate team member when supplies require replenishment.
  • Support other clinic functions when necessary to maintain efficient operations.
  • Provider Support
  • Anticipate provider needs throughout the clinical day.
  • Ensure required patient information and documentation are available for the provider.
  • Assist with clinical documentation and workflow as permitted.
  • Coordinate providerdirected orders, referrals, diagnostic testing, prescriptions, and followup requirements according to established procedures.
  • Communicate clinical information to patients as directed and authorized by the treating provider.
  • Help ensure provider orders and next steps are appropriately documented and routed.
  • Documentation & EHR
  • Enter accurate and timely information into the electronic health record (EHR/EMR).
  • Maintain complete and organized patient documentation.
  • Review charts for missing or incomplete information.
  • Properly route messages, clinical requests, results, and documentation to the appropriate provider or team member.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and company privacy requirements.
  • Quality, Safety & Compliance
  • Follow established clinical policies, procedures, and provider protocols.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked clinical areas.
  • Follow infectionprevention and OSHA requirements.
  • Protect confidential patient information.
  • Recognize issues outside the CMA's scope of practice and appropriately escalat them to a licensed provider.
  • Participate in clinic quality, safety, and processimprovement initiatives.
What We're Looking For

Our strongest CMAs understand that excellent clinical support is both patient-focused and operationally focused.

You should be someone who notices when a room needs to be turned over, a provider needs assistance, documentation is incomplete, or patient flow is beginning to slow—and takes appropriate action.

Required Qualifications
  • Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential or other companyapproved nationally recognized medical assistant certification.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited or recognized Medical Assistant training program, as applicable to certification.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology.
  • Ability to obtain and accurately document vital signs and patient information.
  • Comfortable working with electronic health record (EHR/EMR) systems.
  • Strong computer and dataentry skills.
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.
  • Ability to perform the essential clinical functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant in an outpatient clinical setting.
  • Experience in orthopedics, spine care, pain management, chiropractic care, neurology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, sports medicine, interventional medicine, or another specialty practice.
  • Experience supporting multiple providers or rotating specialists.
  • Experience in a fastpaced medical practice with significant daily patient flow.
  • Familiarity with referrals, diagnostic imaging orders, specialist coordination, and followup care.
  • Experience working with musculoskeletal or injuryrelated patients.
Core Competencies

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Patient Focus — Treats every patient professionally, respectfully, and compassionately.
  • Clinical Accuracy — Obtains and documents information carefully and consistently.
  • Patient Flow Management — Understands how individual tasks affect the entire clinic schedule.
  • Initiative — Identifies what needs to be done and takes appropriate action.
  • Provider Support — Anticipates provider needs and helps create an efficient clinical environment.
  • Organization — Manages multiple patients, rooms, requests, and priorities without losing track of details.

  • Communication — Communicates clearly with patients, providers, and coworkers.
  • Adaptability — Remains effective when schedules, patient needs, or clinical priorities change.
  • Accountability — Takes ownership of assigned responsibilities and follows tasks through completion.
What Success Looks Like
  • Keeps patients moving efficiently through the clinical visit.
  • Has rooms and patients prepared before the provider is ready to enter.
  • Maintains accurate, timely clinical documentation.
  • Anticipates provider needs rather than waiting for instructions.
  • Recognizes and communicates potential schedule or patientflow problems early.
  • Follows through on providerdirected clinical tasks.
  • Maintains organized, stocked, and professional clinical areas.
  • Communicates effectively with patients and coworkers.
  • Understands and respects the boundaries of the Medical Assistant's scope of practice.
  • Contributes to the success of the entire clinic rather than focusing only on individually assigned tasks.
