Job summary

Cone Health Medical Group seeks a Certified Medical Assistant to provide team-based patient care under Provider supervision. Duties include collecting data, recording vital signs, performing EKGs, administering vaccines and injections, processing prior authorizations, scheduling, and documenting in the medical record according to plan of care.

Requires CMA or RMA certification from listed bodies; high school diploma or equivalent; MA program preferred.

Qualifications

• Required: Certification as a CMA/RMA from one of the listed organizations.
• Preferred: Medical Assistant program including clinical rotation.
• Experience: None required; preferred completion of MA program including clinical rotation and physician office experience.

Responsibilities

• Assists in collection of patient data including biological, psychological, social, and cultural factors.
• Enters data, such as vital signs and implements the plan of care as directed by the Provider.
• Implements protocols/standing orders based on patient complaint or reason for visit.
• Performs 12-lead EKGs, select respiratory care procedures and other assigned patient care for which adequate training has been provided and for which competencies have been demonstrated.
• Administers oral and parenteral medications including immunizations, controlled substances, therapeutic injections, skin tests and treatments, and other treatment modalities according to specified policies and procedures and medical assisting standards, under the direction of supervising physicians.
• Completes prior authorizations for medications as needed and communicates physician prescriptions to pharmacies by phone and fax as needed.
• Oversees appointment bookings, ensuring preferences are given to patients in emergency situations and maintains timely flow of patients.
• Provides accurate, complete, and timely documentation of all medical assistant procedures in the medical record.
• Obtains all appropriate prior authorization or pre-certification for patients in order to comply with safety standards.
• Communicates patient condition, questions, and concerns to nursing staff and physician in order to triage and respond to messages appropriately.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
