Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to support a decentralized, patient-centered care model in Outpatient Clinics. Under RN supervision, you will perform multi-skilled duties, take vital signs, interview patients, and input data into patient records.

The role requires an accredited medical assisting program completion, with CMA/CCMA certification, and BLS. This is a PRN, hourly position with daytime shifts and a 4-hour weekly schedule at CHS Hollings

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of an accredited medical assisting program; one year of patient care experience preferred.
• Certification through AMT, AAMA, NHA, or MedCA as CCMA/CMA/NAHP/NCCT; current BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Interview patients and measure vital signs; input data into the medical record.
• Assist in examination and treatment under physician supervision.

Job Description Summary

The Certified Medical Assistant reports to the Outpatient Clinic Manager. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Certified Medical Assistant performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. Assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. Interviews patients, measures vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and records or inputs information to patients' medical record. Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.

Job Description

Minimum Requirements and Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited medical assisting program with one year of patient care experience preferred. Must be certified through the American Medical Technologist (AMT) or American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or National Health career Association (NHA) or MedCA as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
